I never liked her style, but she had an incredible voice. I would've liked to have heard her do something more subtle---maybe like something her aunt Dionne would do.

Yup. "cause of death not determined"
People heard some loud voices and a few loud 'booms', from I read.
Sounds like a life getting cut short by a substance that abused it - oh say, maybe a metal of some sort.
RIP

"Lead poisoning" maybe?
I already heard that she was broke. Squandered all the money she'd made. |

You & ol'Mule could both be right if this was a 'front'-gone-bad because she wasn't in good enough shape to go to the ATM for the cash she owed her supplier before he showed up. Or maybe it was Bobby.

I'll be waiting to hear the attempts to blame someone else for whatever substances are found to have caused her death. We saw it with Michael Jackson. We saw it with Anna Nicole Smith. And we'll probably see it with Houston.

Yea, o.k., fine - criticize me. I went ahead and read it all - but I'm not paying attention to ANY of it. I was just sorta tired with nothing else to do. With all due respect to Ms. Houston, she had her 'troubles' and ultimately found out life will kill you. Another talent lost. She earned her MudMonkey Merit Badge. Having said that...well... Heck, Ms.MudMonkey immediately went and became more famous than Michael Jackson by showing up for her photo shoot earlier than he did. They already have pictures of her and her entourage leaving the hotel room in her stylish white body bag (or maybe it was a blanky, I dunno). They also are saying she got bombed at the bar with a crowd of boisterous people (they were the most noticable in the establishment, doncha know), last night and that prescription drugz were found near her, today. They also say it is possible she drowned in the tub...so maybe THAT was the banging; getting up out of the tub with the 'hangover from hell' while loaded up on 'da'scripts and stepping on a bar of soap. Maybe what 'sounded like a 'man's shouting' was just her final hand-picked choice of 'Sailor's Language' when realizing it was all going to go so totally wrong. Maybe the 'booms' heard were her slamming against the walls and floor...who knows. But *I'm* not paying attention to "What They Say", no. Not me. Thanks for the tunes Ms.H. R.I.P. |

Pa,
I may have missed it, but what exactly is a mud monkey merit badge? |

It's proof you passed the 'final test'; everyone earns it the day they croak and take up that new residence over in the quiet community. Pretty often a headstone, doncha know.
Out here in the wild, sometimes you can recognize 'achievers-in-hiding'.

News said that the police were quick to point out that there were no obvious signs of foul play. As if murder is the first thing any of us thought.

The first report I heard was very early this morning on one of the standard (and supposedly more dependable) channels - completely caught me off-guard. They apparently interviewed someone that had the room above hers. Seemed a little odd they mentioned the loud male voice and the 'bangs'. True or not, that has a way of coloring peoples' perceptions going forward and didn't seem to be 'repsonsible reporting' as much as free-form fodder for opinionated commentary and sarcasm - tasteless or otherwise (and sure shouldn't be a surprise, especially considering history). Who knows what the heck really transpired other than it was all simply unfortunate. |

Now comes the endless tabloid gossip via the TV shows, magazines with their speculation & drama creation & daily new "possible evidence" posing question after question of "did Whitney do this" or "did Whitney say that" right before her death or "was Whitney suffering fom this or that" or blah blah blah blah blah for the next hellish few months.
It'll be mildly entertaining for a little while, as was Whitney's real life gossip fodder, then it will just become wearisome & boring like it does with all the rest of them until another one dies or does something stupid.
Just more reason to hate celebrities, afaic.

We saw that with Anna Nicole Smith and we're still seeing it with Michael Jackson. Does anyone really care how guilty Jackson's doctor was in his death? It's not like it's gonna bring Jackson back. Whenever I hear that case back on the news, I just groan and change the channel.

And of course, with Jackson, there's now a "tribute tour" (The Immortal World Tour) travelling the globe with Michael Jackson impersonators, playing to sold out audiences of morons who are satisfied to see a skinny black guy with a fedora & a sequined glove moon walking & doing MJ's moves while lip syching his songs.
I wonder if we're in for something like that vis-a-vis Whitney.
Maybe they'll combine the two.
Anything to keep on generating money off of their carcasses.

If I hear "And Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Will always love youuuuuuuu uuu uuu" one more time, I may go ballistic. I'm sorry she's gone, but der Lord, enough with closing every news segment with this song.

I hated that song when it was out, and I continue to hate it. I just mentioned here last week or so, how I blame Whitney for this screaming style that all the urban pop "divas" go for.

I remember how tickled I was when I heard Howard Stern refer to her vocal style, using the exact same term I had been using for it..... "vocal gymnastics".
Sounded more like showing off than actual singing.
