I'd agree with that except for....I've been that kind of tourist. I went to Amsterdam to see the museums and all that....but I stayed at a cheap hotel right off of the red light district. Even on a group trip. I'd do my own thing. In Paris at the artists square, in Amsterdam, in Italy, etc. But I managed to shower once a day and look clean. If trying to fit in with the locals means looking like a bum isn't that insulting the locals? And lets face it...human beings stink. We produce foul odors. This guy doesn't make me think "Trivago could really help me out when I travel." He makes me think "Wow. That guy looks like he smells bad". They need to clean him up or get another spokesperson. I'd trust that annoying lawn ornament elf before this smelly looking skanky guy, even if I had to book a room with the gieco gecko as a roommate. |

^ Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus---not just here, but all over the net. I have a good friend who's travelled a lot. Biked a lot in Europe, Israel, China, etc. He's kinda poorly groomed here, so I imagine he's no better on his trips. He's clean and all, and he shaves, but there are always sections of stubble in the corners next to his nostrils that he keeps missing. I've known the guy since college, and he's always been this way. |

I know its ridiculous to think its the same guy....but hell, I liked the guy. But then again he wasn't the most hygienic dude I'd ever met either. |

^ Naah. This guy's name is Larry. Teaches school, lives in the Haight (in SF), grew up in Jersey. Being a teacher, he'd spend his summer months travelling, biking, staying in youth hostels or with people he met along the way. He did this every summer until the past few. |

I can't help but find his appearance and demeanor sleazy. However, I do think that a wardrobe change would have made a difference. I signed up to this forum just to say that.

After seeing these commercials a million times, it finally hit me what this dude reminds me of. He strikes me as some dude who just like, decided to retire to the islands somewhere and lounge about, no longer worrying if he skips shaving for a few days, no longer caring about putting on a washed shirt everyday.

His neck looks sweaty which just reminds me of a jonesing junkie. Or coming off a 3 day bender. Probably both.

Totally agree. Is he getting braces at age 48? Does he not own a belt? Very creepy.

I am SO glad this site is here, going on about the Trivago guy because my husband said I was being slightly harsh. This guy looks like he smoke 9 packs of "No Quit'ems" (cigarettes) an hour! Then, what's up with his refusal to "freshen" his beard and hair up for the commercial, and I will agree, his clothes appear second-hand and his chest, (because his shirt is unbuttoned entirely too far down), his chest is BRIGHT red, while his neck and his face are ashen. WTF!!!???? And why are his arms so short and stumpy compared to the rest of his body?
I have nice'd up this comment in case he happens to read it or hear about it. Everybody has feelings! Why Trivago decided HE should be their Spokesman is beyond me! I'm hoping, his 'homeless, I'm an alcoholic from way back' self, owns Trivago. That would make me feel so much better about having to see this guy on my TV every darn night! |

^Welcome aboard.
I think Trivago must have been working on a tight budget and hired that gent to make the assorted commercials we get abused with, all in one day (probably before lunch). Being they're a German organization, they had to find an American transplant to break into the U.S. market...and they got one that looks like his next stop is 'rehab'.

I heard this gnarly guy for the umpteenth time & had to get online to see if anyone else hated the sound of his lispy voice, not to mention his WTF appearance. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I finally figured it out -- as did many of you much sooner -- that he's an American expat living in Germany. So, the German advertisers thought "We must have an American," and since he's "Big in Germany," they picked Tim Williams. That, however, is the problem: He's Big in Germany. Not in his native United States! He doesn't translate into American, even though he IS, ostensibly, an American. I promise I will never, ever go to Trivago.com -- NOT EVER. If it were the last online travel search engine on Earth, I would revert back to getting in my car, driving to the nearby public library, and looking up hotels in the "Phone Books by Major City" section!

Partly accounting for his disheveled appearance is the linen shirt. Linen shirts always look unpressed, worn, too casual. It's a bad choice.
He really doesn't look as bad as many people think; there's quite an overreaction going on.

I'm glad my original post started the firestorm of observations about this vagrant spokesperson. I hadn't zeroed in on his lack of belt, long torso, rumpled linen shirt, hair wisps, and annoying voice. I also appreciated other posters pointing out the lame graphics which so helpfully instruct us how to use a travel site like we just discovered the Internets. It is reassuring to know I'm not the only one perturbed by this man's existence- I even prefer the eTrade baby, Flo or the Aflac duck to this chap!

Five pages of comments. A thread that's nearly a year old, and has never laid dormant for very long. People signing up with CIH specifically to comment on this thread. One person whose username even reflects that. This Trivago guy has been a resounding success. |

Not only do I agree, I am so atypically repulsed by this guy they actually chose and paid to do this spot.....not only would I never EVER use the service, the second he appears I grab the remote. He is truly repulsive, also distorted re body proportions.
And, anyone who thinks intense negative responses foster brand recognition....is a moron.

You probably recognize "Trivago" mainly because of this guy. Just Google "Trivago guy", and see all the websites unrelated to travel that come up. Everyone seems to know who "the Trivago guy" is and, hence, that Trivago is a travel-oriented business. Prior to this guy, few ever heard of Trivago. |

Totally! If I have to replace the batts in my remote prematurely because of this, I think litigation would be in order. I am only half playin.
