I just saw an ad for Sylvan where they talk about kids forgetting stuff over the summer, so you should sign your kids up for Sylvan Summer School. Are you KIDDING me? This place sounds like such a racket. Can you imagine paying that kind of money to send your kids somewhere they won't even want to go? Unbelievable. I'd understand if they were saying you should sent your kids if they're struggling, but just because they might forget something over the summer? Please. Summer is supposed to be for building those other skills - summer camp skills. Am I right?

Oh my god, that's ridiculous! Has she had him tested for learning disabilities? Because if the source of his difficulty is an undiagnosed LD, I'm not saying that the Sylvan won't help, but there are probably cheaper options available, like an IEP at the school. And how much pressure is that on a kid? And if it's something else like ADHD, tutoring won't solve everything. And 10K is WAAAAYYYY too much to pay for a solution that might not even be complete. |

A woman I work with had to take a second mortgage on her house to send her son to Sylvan. They "figure out" how many hours your kid will need. Hers valued out to about $10,000 worth of Sylvan.

In the different versions of this commercial, a kid gets a test back and then imagines being lifted and praised by classmates while party music plays and the kid screams in joy and laughs and confetti falls down. Then they talk about the "Sylvan approach".
I can not say enough how much I hate these commercials. Not only are they cheesy, but also annoying!
