Yep...had relatives in Beaverdale and Lloydell.  I loved going there.  My Aunt Vernie/Uncle Mike's house was at the top of a hill, overlooking the whole area.

As a matter of fact, the last time I visited my mother's relatives in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania in 1967, their outhouse was still standing.

Back to paper towels for coffee filters: We're hooked. Never have bought anymore, although MissyDWolf asked for a small package for Valentine's Day (if I can find 'em on sale, she might get a small package). Coffee through paper towels comes out just a tad stronger and more flavorful; I love it. We ran out of paper towels just a few minutes ago and I want a second pot - but I will NOT use toilet paper.

I don't know what my mother used to do.  I do remember that, in our rag cabinet, we had these diaper-sized pieces of cloth with the name of some linen service on them, so I'm guessing we used a diaper service.

I see that Pampers were intro'd here in 1961, so disposables were out of the question for me.

I'd sell the kids first or make my own money.

Yeah PaW, I left that part out of my story.
I remember my mom doing the diaper dribble too, in the toilet.
Sopping it up and down till the majority of debris was off then tossing it in the pre-laundry bucket.

I'm sure my mom did the same for me and my older brothers too, I just don't remember it.

LOL
*I* was raised in cloth diapers - in fact, so was my older sister, but not my younger brother.
Let's just make everything a little more sickening - but this is true!
We were trained early on to wash 'em out in the toilet, flush, rinse them out in the toilet again, flush, wring 'em out, take to Mom, for the obligatory clorox bath in the washing machine.
We learned to use the toilet correctly really fast, I tell ya.

I actually remember there was a "Diaper Service"  - they would come and pick up your dirty diapers, launder them somewhere with God knows what kind of chemicals and bring you back a clean stack. I also remember my mother washing out the dirty diapers, and putting them in a Diaper pail that had some kind of deodorizing "puck" on the top.

If the price of toilet paper got me that upset and caused my budget to go haywire, then I'd sell the kid first. I mean really - is that the only way to save money? How utterly disgusting.

I do have a confession, though.  I am a bottle flipper.  I have a bottle of Avon Cocoa Butter lotion flipped over on my desk now.  The ketchup bottle is flipped over, as well as the shampoo and body wash bottles.Embarrassed  When I get to the end of the laundry detergent, yes, that one gets flipped, too.

I have flipped lotion bottles as well!!! Especially when you buy something that smells sooooo good and you can't find that scent anymore!!
You made me LOL about the ketchup water!!!!LOLLOL

I would do the same thing as you, Codtaro.  I put water in the detergent bottle to get the last of it out, but throw the bottle away.

My mom does the detergent thing, but she does it always. She has an empty soap bottle that she puts a tiny bit of detergent into, and fills the rest with water XD Drives me nuts. I'll admit, I've gone numerous times to use the "refill" bottle instead of the diluted.

I don't have a lot of money to waste.....but, I won't destroy a product by stretching it with water, either - unless it's detergent, then it doesn't matter.

Pa, my grandmother used to make free range greens, lol.  Dandelion, lambsquarter weed, just to name a few.  They would have been good if she would have seasoned them better.

After watching the clips, I am going to hug my husband and apologize for calling him a cheapskate.....he flips over the ketchup bottles..he adds water to the dishwashing liquid when it reaches the bottom..he does use old rags but TO POLISH THINGS AND CLEAN FURNITURE  when I complain that he is too cheap to buy clorox bleach wipes (which I love). These people are FREAKING WACKY!! And the lady that doesn't buy toilet tissue...EWWWWWWWW!!!!! I would never eat at her house!! That is just NAAAASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOLYou really need to watch the episode - she is far worse than you think. She is *special* - she participates in a communal day-care - when it is her turn, all the neighbors bring their kids to her place! You should see what she was feeding them - let's just call it "Free-Range Salad".

I'd be afraid to feed those kids what she fed them, because I'd be afraid they'd get food poisoning.

I reuse paper towels.  I've even washed them.  Works well with Viva paper towels.  I get really annoyed when visitors tear off two paper towels to sop up their kids' little puddle of spilled whatever---and then throw the paper towel away.  I keep my mouth shut, though and have learned to hide the paper towels when certain people come over.

But it's not just a matter of being cheap.  It's also a matter of not wanting to run out of such products.  There are certain products I always forget to buy.

I've done that before, Pa, and I agree, it works perfectly!  We still by coffee filters, though - the Aldi brand.

Confused...well, we got to try out being 'cheapskates', this A.M...we ran out of coffee filters. Used a single clean paper towel, instead. Worked perfectly! I bet we can save $2.34 every month by employing this, going forward.

That is simply a terrible suggestion - would force people to use 'smell-check' before submitting their (p)articles.
Gotta start with a 'clean sheet', right?
