I actually remember there was a "Diaper Service"  - they would come and pick up your dirty diapers, launder them somewhere with God knows what kind of chemicals and bring you back a clean stack. I also remember my mother washing out the dirty diapers, and putting them in a Diaper pail that had some kind of deodorizing "puck" on the top.

LOL
*I* was raised in cloth diapers - in fact, so was my older sister, but not my younger brother.
Let's just make everything a little more sickening - but this is true!
We were trained early on to wash 'em out in the toilet, flush, rinse them out in the toilet again, flush, wring 'em out, take to Mom, for the obligatory clorox bath in the washing machine.
We learned to use the toilet correctly really fast, I tell ya.

Yeah PaW, I left that part out of my story.
I remember my mom doing the diaper dribble too, in the toilet.
Sopping it up and down till the majority of debris was off then tossing it in the pre-laundry bucket.

I'm sure my mom did the same for me and my older brothers too, I just don't remember it.

I'd sell the kids first or make my own money.

I don't know what my mother used to do.  I do remember that, in our rag cabinet, we had these diaper-sized pieces of cloth with the name of some linen service on them, so I'm guessing we used a diaper service.

I see that Pampers were intro'd here in 1961, so disposables were out of the question for me.

As I recall, your fam is originally from some little corner holler, deep in the mountains of Eastern PA.

You probably didn't use cloth diapers - too hard to wash out in the outhouse.

~~~
Back to paper towels for coffee filters: We're hooked. Never have bought anymore, although MissyDWolf asked for a small package for Valentine's Day (if I can find 'em on sale, she might get a small package). Coffee through paper towels comes out just a tad stronger and more flavorful; I love it. We ran out of paper towels just a few minutes ago and I want a second pot - but I will NOT use toilet paper.
As a matter of fact, the last time I visited my mother's relatives in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania in 1967, their outhouse was still standing.
WinkHoly Cow! I've been through Beaverdale a bunch of times - it is off SR 219 - my usual path down into the U.S. of A...they really do have outhouses there, but I usually stop for some UTZ potato chips and Pepsi, when I'm there.
Yep...had relatives in Beaverdale and Lloydell.  I loved going there.  My Aunt Vernie/Uncle Mike's house was at the top of a hill, overlooking the whole area.
