Thou shalt not raise from the dead any thread that has lain dormant for more than a year.
Look at the date - if it's over a year ago, don't reply. Just doing my part to keep this a fun and vibrant community. That, and paying $32 per month. Please consider a donation today. Cheers! |

Hey Nathan - why don't we just delete anything that's more than a year old, periodically?

Yes, this is news to me. I thought recreating topics that already existed was the big no no.
Duplicates it is then. Saves me from having to search the forum as not to repeat.

I cannot fully agree.
In some cases, such as Subaru's 'lost sunglasses' commercial, I'd just as soon bring the original thread back to life - if they cannot let the commercial die, why can't we try and kill it with everything we have already put forth, and then some?
I have resurrected that commercial TWICE - the stinkin' commercial is just as horrific as it was 3 years ago.

If someone starts a new thread when one already exists, I don't mind. It's not always that easy to do a search. Hell, all it takes is for someone to spell AT&T as "A T T" or "AT+T", or WalMart as Wal-Mart, and the thread may not be found. And now, having to take into consideration the age of the thread? Too much hassle to worry too much about.

Pa, it's not so much that the procedure is difficult as it is that I can't know that someone else is going to input the product name as I would. Look at the Walmart thread on the first page of Commercials You Hate. Would I find that thread if I did a topic search using "walmart"? No, I'd have to guess that it might be in there as "Wal-Mart" (which it is). With that dash, it all begins to become too much hassle. You started an "AT&T" thread. Someone else started one on the same commercial, but typed it in as "A T and T". How am I supposed to deal with that? Should I come up with a list of all the possible ways AT&T might be typed and do a search on each in case "AT&T" yielded no results? And then, there are the people who editorialize in the topic name rather than just put in the name of the product. "This is the worst commercial ever" does me no good.
I'm not saying people shouldn't bother at all. But if you don't come up with any results on your first or second try, don't worry about it. It's not the end of the world.
edit: As I typed that, someone started a topic about the "McRib". If I wanted to do a topic search, I'd probably be inclined to do it on "McDonalds" (or would that be "McDonald's?). I wouldn't find it.

Pa, I believe it's you who waaaaaaaah's about the search thing. Get over it or get your own Kleenex. Besides, I don't know if you're aware, but your spelling is horrendous ("sepearate"?). I don't wanna have to even consider wondering "How might Pa have spelled it?"

Why the argument? The title of this thread, started by Nathan, says Thread Necromancy is Now Prohibited. You don't have to agree with it. Just quit pulling up ancient sh*t.
Thor, I've run into the same problems you have had with titles and spelling. Sometimes, the "searchy-thingy" doesn't work well. No biggy. |

You're always extra obnoxious when you've been having a few, AND your spelling skills drop a notch. I'm not assuming, I'm very observant.

I've just been insulted by the likes of Subaru that hare rehashing the same commercial for the third year in a row...

I think we should be able to respond to any post we want to no matter how old it is.
I thought we were all here to discuss things freely.
Now I'm feeling hemmed in.

All this started by a silly suggestion.
CIH Members Pictures / Pets/ Jokes/ Hall of Lame/ What are you eating/etc./etc. are all well over a year old.If any deleting wants to be done, delete old threads without any replies.

I think Nathan was referring to threads that died a year or more ago, not ones that were started a year or more ago.
When he said "Look at the date - if it's over a year ago, don't reply", I think he meant to look at the date of the last post, not the date that the thread began.

If it costs Nathan to keep old posts, then fine....either that or have an archive feature. Then if someone wants to resurrect an old post, they can dig into the archives for it.
