Of all shows that I hate..."The Simpsons" REALLY take the cake!
Yesterday, they were on the verge of cancellation...now we have 2 (or more) years! Looks like they're right with this song... |

Only two scripted TV Series have produced more episodes:
1. Gunsmoke (1955-1975 - 635 Episodes)
2. Lassie (1954-1973 - 591 Episodes)

That's 2 more seasons I won't be watching them.
I actually liked The Simpsons at first. But with all the media hype and Butterfinger commercials those first few years, I became permanently turned off.

I haven't watched them for the past couple of seasons, but not because I don't like the show.
I haven't watched them because they come on at the same time on Sunday evenings as Doc Martin on PBS.
A bloody great show about a surly, crotchety British doctor who developed a case of hemophobia which forced him to stop being a surgeon in a big, prestigious London hospital & move to a small coastal fishing village in Cornwall on the southern coast where his aunt lives & he used to spend his summers as a boy. The fun happens when his brusque, businesslike mannerisms & utter lack of tact or subtlety, butts heads with the quirky, oddball ways of the flakey villagers who slowly, begrudgingly begin to accept him.
![]() Awesome show.
Good enough to make me miss the Simpsons.

Yes. but how many of those shows had characters who never aged or had even the slightest change in life situation. Lisa and Bart have been in the same grade in school for all 100 seasons. |

So? The coyote fell off giant cliffs, got flattened by huge trucks & blown to smitereens by TNT hundreds of times & always got back up & resumed trying to catch the roadrunner.
You can do otherwise impossible stuff like that when you're a CARTOON CHARACTER.
And I won't even go into some of the things that happened to Yosemite Sam.... I'm just sayin.....

I'm just sayin..... I'm amazed that they have been able to think up that many different story lines for all those seasons given some of the inate limitations of the character's story lines. Wasn't intended as an insult, more as a compliment. |

I've tried watching The Simpsons, honestly. Fair enough, I wasn't around for the big heyday of The Simpsons. But what I've seen, it's nothing special anyway. And infact, I avoid watching it, for many reasons.
1. The show tries to maintain a realistic basis of events, as in, the characters all have slight mental developments based upon their experiences and most everything follows of a chronological timeline. However, as time goes on, these characters have not physically aged at all and their psyches have not developed whatsoever overall. 2. The jokes fall flat. Any joke that could possibly be misunderstood or slightly subtle, they have to trot out the joke and show it in the most obvious ways possible. The writers apparently assume that their viewership is stupid and naive and cannot comprehend a joke properly unless it's shoved right in their face. Given that this isn't true, getting an obvious joke shoved right in your face makes it alot less funny. 3. Most of the characters are annoying, and the recurring characters have been the same for years and years. They just continue to return forever. Overall, I don't see why this got renewed for another 2 seasons. King of the Hill, a vastly superior show, got canceled? What the f**k is up with that? Maybe it was because King of the Hill contained mature subjects, character development, and actual morals. I'd rather watch the Cleveland Show or the new Family Guy than watch The Simpsons. Admittedly, I wasn't around for the so-called 'Golden Age' of The Simpsons, but from what I've seen, I think that most everything else on Sunday nights is superior to The Simpsons. As it stands, I just think The Simpsons is still on due to nostalgia and the fact that it's a little more entertaining than staring at a brick wall, which most other programming cannot overcome... |

King of the Hill superior to The Simpsons?????????????????????????????
King of the Hill was the WORST ATTEMPT at prime time animation to ever stink up a TV screen!!!!!!
I used to watch it because nothing else was on & actually found it to be occasionally pretty decent, but compared to The Simpsons, it's second rate trash at best.
And those oither two pieces of crap you mentioned woildn't even exist of not for the Simpsons, which they've all basically tried to emulate & rip off.
The Simpsons might not be what it used to be, but it still has flashes of brilliance that no other animated (or non-animated) network program can hold a candle to.

The voice actors just took huge paycuts to continue the series - this show just can't be killed, it seems.
And as for worst animated show - it's not King of the Hill. Take a simple look at any of McFarLAME's shows for that. |

Seriously? Futurama gets canceled (though eventually brought back) but The Simpsons is still around? I was delighted when I found out they were ending...and I thought Matt Groening said 20 seasons and that's it...but at this point give me a break. I stopped watching around 1999-2000. I will say I enjoyed the movie though.

I actually like King of the Hill & Futurama, but only when I feel like tuning in to them. The Simpsons, on the other hand, need to die. Bart needs a job, Lisa needs to move out, Maggie needs to be put in a nursery and Homer/Marge need to be shipped off to Shady Oaks or whatever retirement village they have in Springfield--just let them die already.
