We were at Bed, Bath, and Beyond yesterday and the commercial for the Magic Bullet was playing!
I don't believe it was the theatrical version; I didn't pause to watch the whole thing. I admit I've never been able to sit through the whole infomercial, but that's a topic for the other thread.
They have a 17-piece set for $59.99, which if I recall correctly, was ~not~ a "sale" price.
I would have walked right by, were it not for my daughter who said "that's a cool blender" and pointed to the TV.
It's now on my wish list. When I have a coupon. (Yesterday's coupon went toward a 60-pack of Keurig cups).

OK, because of some enthusiastic recommendations from this group, we bit the bullet (hyuk) and bought a Magic Bullet. We do drink a lot of smoothies, so even if it's just good for smoothies, it will be worth it. So far? WE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have paid $60 for it, but I got it with an old gift card that I found behind Mr. Aleen's dresser!

Anyone...when it comes to making smoothies, what does this product do that a blender does not?
I make a lot of beverages with fruit and ice and milk and flavorings, and my 6 y/o $9.99 blender from Fry's seems to work the magic just fine. 10 seconds and ...voila!
But if the Magic Bullet is better, I'd consider buying it.

Same here.
I have an "Osterizer" blender that I paid less than 20 bucks for & it makes great milkshakes & smoothies.
And like the MB, I drink them straight from the blender pitcher.

These are the features that tempt me:
It's small, therefore takes up less counter space than the standard blender.
Clean-up appears to be a breeze, which is royal pain with the standard blender.
You can drink right out of the cup thing that you blended in, so you don't lose that .25 cuppish amount that sticks to the sides and blades of the standard blender.
It crushes ice, at which my current countertop blender sucks.

Exactly, Hollyrock! It's sooooooo easy to clean and store! I also like it because Mr. Aleen and I often disagree on what kind of smoothie to make, so this way, I can get my beloved strawberry-orange-banana smoothies and he gets to have whatever freako combination he desires! That way everyone's happy and it gives us incentive to have smoothies every day now!

You clean it in five seconds! With a blender, you have to clean the darn thing or wait for a dishwasher cycle before you can use it again. With the Bullet, you drink out of the cup you blend in. All you have to do is rinse off the blade, and you're back in business with a new fresh empty cup. The dirty cups go in the dishwasher and the blades do too! If you make multiple protein shakes in a day, it's a lifesaver. |

Well, my blender's pretty basic. Clean-up is easy. Basically a rinse. After a week or so, I take it apart, and wash the stuff the rinse doesn't get.

Sometimes, I'll make a beverage/smoothie, have some, and put the rest (still in the blender) into the freezer. After it freezes up a bit, I'll blend it again, and have a semi-frozen beverage that I have to eat with a spoon.

Now I wish I got the durned thing when I saw it in the drugstore for $20. THAT is a realistic price!!
For now, though, I stick with the ye olde fashioned blender. Smoothies using an entire tray of ice cubes + various fresh fruit, maybe a dollop of honey = awesome.
