Thank you, National Grid, for the second power outage this week!  It's 28 degrees outside.  Thankfully, we have a woodstove and a generator.  Gee, I hope we don't keep the neighborhood up (if they're not running their generators, too).  Estimated fix time is 11:30pm.  Should be on by morning.Angry  sh*tty, sh*tty service.

CryI so feel for you & yours, CW.
NatGrid is a GIANT Brit organization that has been busy buying up US utilities; the Feds never stopped them like they should have.
The underlying infrastructure of that company is a toital piece of CRAP.
Moochy lives on Long Island - if she is(was) a Keyspan Energy customer, she can tell you how bad it has gotten.
My team had to get involved in the tecnical aspects of NatGrid invasion about 7 years ago; I'm surprised to activist groups have been formed to raise hell about them.
Just wait, though - I've some very close friends still in the middle of their organization - it is about to get a little more trying (like India call centers, etc....)

Damn, India call centers?  I'd rather speak to the computer line to report outages, get on the budget plan, etc.

When we had TS's Irene and Lee, our power didn't go out.  We turned the power off ourselves before we were evacuated just in case.  Our power goes out when we are having no weather events.

Our DishTV receiver just started *smoking*.  No TV until we get the new receiver, probably on Thursday.

It's Feb. 12th, and we've had our driveway plowed a total of THREE times.  This is actually scary for Upstate NY.  I'm not complaining, mind you, but I'm worried about what our water table is going to be like in August....unless we get hit with more tropical storms in the summer, our ground may be very dry.  Not good when you depend on a well.  Ah, I can't wait to get the hell out of this stupid state.

'Thunder Snow', eh? Haven't seen it for a few years. I find it an impressive and tad scary event; the last time I saw it, I was walking back to the Den from the store after dark when it hit - a purple & yellow sky, almost lake-effect blowing snow, and the sight and sound effects.
We have been socked in a few times only to have the weather warm up and create muddy messes for weeks, now. Currently, it has been snowing for three days straight - people are 'car-bowling' all over the place. Usually we plan our trips out of the woods and off the island at times like this, but as of recent, we've both had lots of reason to move around, so things have been pretty nerve-racking. For once, we're looking forward to Spring.

We've had more 50s -60s days this winter then below 40s, which is fine with me. The ground is nowhere cold enough for any snow to stick.
Snowed for an half hour along with a couple cracks of thunder- enough for the cat to go into hiding.LOL

Our temps went back up today and created another VERY muddy mess...so I screwed up and went for a "nice bikeride".
No fender on bike.
Temp at about 40, so all the melted water was ice cold and flying up on my backside when I hit large pools of it.
My butt probably now has the flu...

You guys get any of that snow last night? 4 inches on the ground here this a.m.  Sunny and almost 50 degrees today, so most of it is gone.

We've been getting dustings of snow, and that's it.  It's funny, because we'll barely have any snow, and the snow plow will come, scrape the road, and spread sand.  We have sand stuck all over our car.

Having dealt with a printer that sucked when it was new 7 years ago, and has been totally useless for the past two years, I was pretty excited when I finally went out and got a new printer yesterday.  So, I set it up, tested it, downloaded the software, put my old printer away, got rid of the box and styrofoam, and sat down to have some fun with it.  I quickly came to the realization that there's not much fun to be had with a printer.

I was thinking of scanning my bare ass, but I don't think these things are designed for it.

LOL

The kittens would love that.  They've already climbed all over it.  I've been tempted to let them go for a spin on my turntable, which is on a stand next to the printer.

ConfusedOur neighbors are walking their dogs again....
Nice folk, younger couple. They can come walk their dogs on our property as long as they don't bring them too close to ours. Our pups are either small, old, and very civil, or large, young, and will eat you - no 'in-between'.
Their dogs?
Well...if dogs are indeed generally a reflection of their owners, then, well...
They are middle-aged; the male is a well-behaved, friendly black & white husky with sky-blue eyes. Nice dog. Quiet (Huskies generally howl, rarely bark). The female? This one drives me nuts - can't stand it. A collie-shepherd mix, black and white, with attitude issues and a severe anxiety disorder; anyone OTHER than the owners that get near it? This insecure mixed-breed interracial psychopath female dog goes postal but will not attack; actually will try and bury itself under anything so as to hide, but will not shaddup - CONSTANTLY barks and cries until anything unfamiliar leaves. This includes squirrels, frogs, fish that jump in the river, and so forth (which is one huge reason why we let them walk them in 'the wildreness' (at their own risk). They absolutely love the dog, we hope the 'calming effect' of the woods will help her 're-balance'. I've never asked them, but I suspect she must be a 'rescue dog', as my neighbor's wife seems to be a pretty 'balanced' individual.
Well...just moments ago, I could tell they were around...something scared the heck out of the female (as always) - all hell broke loose down the trail...must have had a bunny hop across the path. Every time this dog goes nuts and I am anywhere near, it really gnaws at me, If I know that husky, his 'wife' will NEVER have pups. Wimmins!Unhappy

Hopefully, maybe the Nor'easter will go off track and visit California.

From here on out, we'll get maybe 1 inch of rain between now and October.  I really wish we'd get an occasional summer rainstorm.  Once every two weeks would be fine.  'Cuz usually by June, the grass starts to struggle and my plants need to be watered every day.

Right now, everything is coming out of its winter doldrums.  It's all green, my backyard smells like old lady soap (due to orange blossoms) and I've got a sh*tload of roses blooming.

We have a rain deficit of 5 inches so far this season.  Our creek is dangerously low.  I can't imagine what our well is looking like right now.
