note: I couldn't find the horrid new 'Disco General' ("ooooooo Papi!") commercial - be thankful (until I do).

AngryO.K....where does it end? To just how much more of their idiotic abuses are we going to be subjected? There is not a single 'General Insurance' commercial that isn't 'Mute-Worthy', but the newest ones seem to be the worst of the bunch. Until today's exposure to 'Disco General', 'The Comedian' may very well be the worst.
I'm so sick of their commercials I could cry....

I can't stand them either.  The General makes the Geico gecko almost tolerable.  Almost.

There've been a few commercials in which they've tried to use stand-up comedy to sell their products.  They've all sucked.

I used to like the General's commercials until hearing them over and over again--kinda like Kidz Flop CD commercials--you don't know why they're still there, or what they're selling anymore*.

*Kidz Flop was to originally provide a kid-voiced, censored alternative to "immoral" late-90's-era music--parents and little toddlers ate that crap up, while teens (and me at the time) thought it was annoying and stupid. Now it's even more annoying and they just pick any song--bad words or not--to 'bowdlerize' and screw over the original artists.

The General commercials are so universally atrocious I think we've all just collectively stopped posting about them because it's just understood that they're terrible.  Complete garbage, and I agree - this is one of the worst ones.

I just absolutely hate hate hate this commercial. First of all its not funny. Second of all he is such a horrible actor. I would throw tomatoes if I was at a comedian show and that was my comic.

Why does it seem like "The General" tends to target the type of person that is likely to make a poor wage, barely afford their car payment, probably on welfare of some kind.  I may be a minority soon!

He's so unfunny that it really painful to watch.

It's like the got some guy from accounting to write it and then hired the first desperate actor to perform it.

I have no idea why this comment was so funny to me, but I snorted when I read it (and almost woke my baby up).  Just the image of throwing tomatoes...hilarious!

I was shocked (I don't know why, it's not really surprising) to see that the General created another commercial with this jackass. Does his giant cheesy smile make anyone else want to vomit? I'll bet this guy gets yelled at in public, just for being in this vile commercial.

I've known a few stand-up comics who've gotten TV, movie and commercial roles.  They take what they can get.  It's a pretty difficult career to break through in.  No one begrudges them their roles, especially if people know them and like their humor or personality.  Certainly, other comedians don't begrudge them any roles they can get.  It's what they all want.  One comedian I knew in the early 80s who scored well with a TV commercial role, is Diane Amos, the Ajax lady.  She's been doing that role for 20 years.  It led to other roles such as in Legally Blonde and Patch Adams.  Nice person.  I don't remember much about her stand-up, but I remember I didn't mind watching her.

This guy's name is Erik Rivera.  There are Youtube videos of him.  Ehhh.  He's alright, I guess.  Nothing unusual---the type of comedian that people see who just want to go out to see a live show.  Then again, having seen 11,000 sets of live comedy, I'm jaded.

Wow, I didn't know he was actually a comedian. Probably because the commercial is such a bad attempt at humor. He should incorporate the stupidity of that commercial into his routine. The General probably wouldn't like that too much, though.

Ooops.  My mistake.

I've mentioned here a few times how I remember the commercials, but often, the product being advertised flies right over my head.  I guess this proves that.  LOL

The Nationwide guy is also a comedian.  His name is Bob Wiltfong.  He used to be on the Daily Show.  Another example of a comedian scoring an obnoxious gig.  At least here, he's funny:

Here's another stand-up comic I used to know, who's scored a few commercials:

If that guy is really a comedian I feel bad for him that they gave him that drivel to work with. Poor guy.
This is your brain on commercials.
