There is currently a commercial where a young couple chats about switching from a Honda SUV to a Ford SUV. I have no problem with those who wish to switch from Honda to Ford, what I hate about this commercial is the young woman's voice.
She speaks with that monotonous tone that so many young women use, and I want to take her head and stuff it down the loo and flush it a couple of times.
Why do they speak that way? It's not attractive, it just makes the person sound ridiculous.
Do they think it makes them sound intelligent? Following trends reveal stupidity more than intelligence to me.
When she laughs to herself and says " awesome" at the end, makes me want to put my foot through the TV!

^  I think you might be referring to vocal fry.  For some reason it's become popular with college-aged girls and young women.  Even the NY Times has written about it.

This video explains it:

Another one that annoys me is "uptalk"---making every statement of fact sound like a question.  My friends' 9 y/o daughter has been doing this a lot lately.  Sounds "Valley girl" to me.

^^ "Uptalk" might have been either pioneered, popularized, or revitalized by Alyson Hannigan in American Pie and her "This one time at band camp" schtick.

You can watch only the first 30 seconds to get the gist of it.  And yeah, both that and "vocal fry" are about as pleasant sounding as nails on a chalkboard.

LOL

That's exactly how my friends' daughter sounds.  The worst part is that her 54 y/o mother is doing it, too.

The NY Times had an article about it in 1993.  I used to think it was a California thing, as I only started hearing it when I moved here.  Apparently, it caught on everywhere.

I cured my kid of that "question talk" crap a long time ago.
No matter what he said, as long as he said it that way I'd reply with: "are you asking me or telling me? Because it sounds like you're asking me".
And then to just be as annoying as my wife thinks I am, I wouldn't let it go.
"No really, was that a question or a statement? I couldn't tell. Because if it was a question it really didn't make a lot of sense..."

And so forth.

Interestingly enough, he talks like a person now

^  I'd try that with my friends' daughter, but it's really none of my business.  I did mention the subject once, but I didn't connect it to them or their daughter.  Just wanted to plant the seed.  Maybe they don't even notice how dumb it sounds.

I detest uptalk and vocal fry. Uptalk seemed to start with "news shows" interviewing bitches that seem to be baiting the interviewee with leading questions that were actually statements made to sound like questions. And gravel, sandpaper vocal fry voice bitches sound like they have a hotdog or a rasp or a dick stuck in their throats - you decide! The vocal fry bitch I hate the most is the Swiffer Bitch!

I tried to upload an ITT Tech ad with a student named Raechel Pendleton but I can't make it work. Google Raechel's commercial for a perfect definition of vocal fry. The most annoying voice trend ever and it needs to die now!
