Second one is a "Sphinx Moth"....

Third one is a "Black Swallowtail"....

And thus concludes today's lesson in lepidoptery.

Bugs are so cute. One of them is part spicebush swallowtail and part black swallowtail. And the moth is an oleander hawk moth.  The tiger swallowtail is a female dark morph. Kind of rare.Moths and butterflies are so cute! Love them. I'm obsessed with insects.
Also spiders. I think they're adorable.

Y'know, I thought one half of that Black Swallowtail looked different from the other half, but I didn't want to say anything that might sound critical or suggest maybe a mistake was made by the tattoo artist. Shoulda recognized the other half as a Spicebush, though. Used to see them all over the place when I was a kid.

And the Oleander "Hawk" Moth is also known as Oleander Sphinx Moth. But I did have the wrong one pictured.

It's been many years since I was up on all that. Used to collect them with a friend when I was a kid. We knew all the scientific names, etc.

Over near the coast where I grew up there were a lot more varieties of butterflies than there are here, further inland where I live now. The only butterflies I ever see around here are occasioanl Giant Swallowtails in my backyard.

Butterfly collecting is a cruel hobby, though.

Yeah, that's why I like raising live butterflies and letting them go, or getting butterfly pupa and getting them tattooed on me so I don't have to have them pined on velvet but on my skin instead.

Every fall, we get an infestation of Lady Bugs. I used to like them until they swarmed the side of my house and got in. Since then, I don't find the all that charming anymore.

If that ever happens again, just use a shop-vac or one of those new-style upright vacuums with the plastic canister that you just empty out, to vacuum the bugs up & then relase them somewhere else.

My mom had an infestation of Love Bugs in her house recently & that's what she did. Of course, being that they were just Love Bugs, she didn't make any effort to release them.

Yea...I remember when you first brought that to our attention.

Amazing.

Kind of wonder if'n the culprit got his names mixed up; got David Lynch, missed David Duke...

Apparently those two little (now grown up) white separatist girls who used to call themselves "Prussian Blue" & sang white power songs......

....have seen the light, repented & hung up their guitars.

I guess they were sorta like the Olsen Twins of the neo-Nazi movement.

It doesn't take actual neo-Nazis to make those jokes, though. On EBAY it's all right to sell things like the tunics and caps, but not always all right for the emblems to be visible. So at least one seller covered the emblem with a happy face.

Personally, I loooooove tattoos.  Not huge, cover-the-entire-body tats, but nice smallish ones.  I have 5 right now, planning to get another one.  Each one means something very special to me even though some people may think they're a bit childish.  But that's me, I'm a 25 year old child.  And I'm perfectly secure with myself in that area.  I can understand why many people don't like them.  But I definitely love them and LOVE the pain.  For me, having been a former self-injurer, it gives me that physical pain I need, but instead of a nasty infectious gash that will leave a permanent scar anyway, I get a beautiful work of art on my skin :-)

My interest in people covered in them pretty much started and ended with The Illustrated Man. It's a mixture of a few things, but Rod Steiger's character covered in those pictures has an exotic look that has been missing for me in most of the "illustrated men" I've seen ever since then.
Some "illustrated women" are another matter, but for me they usually have to be exotic-looking to begin with or it doesn't work.
