Dang, I need to improve my diet. My shiits been missing an i all this time! '
the teacher of my 2-D animation class is really annoying me with his mis-pronunciations. I wouldn't mind so much if it weren't for the fact that someone teaching a class in this subject should at least know how to pronounce simple words (He also can't pronounce my name for some reason (Loya/Loia))

I agree with Angry about the word stamp.  However we use the word so much more commonly to mean what the word stamp means.  We should be putting stomps on letters when we mail them.

^When I was little, A strict military teacher (In an adorable way, not the cruel way) sternly corrected me when I asked to borrow a piece of paper, telling me I wasn't going to return it, or make up for it, so I wasn't borrowing.

The next day, I came to school with a full ream of paper, took it to him, and just said "With interest."

For about ten minutes that day, he scared people by both smiling and laughing for the first time in ages.

Yeah.  When people ask me if they can borrow a dollar, I fully expect to never see it returned (let alone with that 50,000% rate of return that you gave your teacher, Codtaro  LOL).

People sometimes ask if I have an "extra" cigarette.  I either tell 'em "Yeah, I didn't plan on smoking this one" or "Yeah, this pack came with 21" or "No.  This pack only came with 20".

Kids on Haight Street used to try to bum money from me all the time.  One line was "Hey, man...any part of $1.25 you can spare?"  I'd tell 'em "Yeah.  The decimal point".

Many years ago, I knew this girl who moved to Florida from Michigan.

I've always heard people refer to having ridden a bus somewhere as having "taken" it... as in "I took the bus to the mall."

This girl would always say "I 'brought' the bus." or "I'm gonna 'bring' the bus.".

I'd be like... "OK, where is it? I don't see it around here anywhere. If you 'brought' it, it should be around here somewhere."

Thank you!  That's a Judge Judy staple.  It annoys her too.  She always corrects them.

It still bothers me that she never corrects, have went.

A new one that they've been coming up with is, "at the time" instead of "at that time".

Ok, Embarrassed so watching Judge Judy gives me the satisfaction of seeing clueless people get yelled at.
Saves me the trouble.

Yep.  I hear that a lot on that show.  But if Judge Judy had to correct all the "have wents" and "had tookens"and "supposablys", she'd have to be on 24/7.

I always wonder where the hell these people went to school.  My sympathy for a particular litigant's situation drops a notch each time I hear them chip away at the English language.

Yes.  She always corrects that one.  But if she corrected all the other mistakes and offenses, she'd never get outta there.  You know, she's got other things to do.  Plus, it's nearly lunchtime and she's getting hungry.

The one I'm constantly seeing is "your" being used where "you're" should be.

Even caught Thor doing it here recently!!!!!

I loved that!!!!! Big smile

I've seen old posts of mine where I hadn't caught some spelling mistake or typo, and actually gone in and corrected it.  Doesn't matter how old it is.

When one is dedicated to proper spelling, grammar & word usage, time is irrelevant.

Thank God for the edit feature.  I probably wouldn't join a forum that didn't have it.

Yeah, for those of us who don't have a spell-checker installed, the edit feature is a God send.

You can usually tell when someone uses spell-check.  They're words are spelled correctly their in the post, but there not the correct versions of the word.

Lots of fans on sports forums get upset when their team "looses" a game.

That's because they're loosers.

My career was in employee benefits, specifically retirement plans.

I can't tell you how many times I typed "penison" plan vs pension plan....

This thread is hillarious. I have always had a fascination with words. Most of the weird things you guys have listed here, especially weird pronunciations, either don't bother me or make me laugh, but I do have a weird quirk with words. There are some words that I love the sound of and then there are some other words or pronunciations that make my ears bleed, not because they're incorrect, but just because I can't stand the sound of them. For some reason I can't stand the word pianist, especially when it is pronounced PEE-an-ist, even though I am one. It's okay if you're playing classical, but even then I just really don't like that word. I say I'm a piano player.
This is your brain on commercials.

Problem is, you have to catch it before someone immortalizes it by quoting you.
