Since this is a recurring theme on CIH I thought some of you might like to read it:

A new study finds that people who are chipper & happy live longer. Which is surprising because people who aren't chipper & happy want to kill people who are always chipper & happy. David Letterman

The "Mommie" Syndrome (Wife takes over as mother like figure to husband/dad) is alive and well in the new Oscar Meyer campaign:

Typical commercial: Dad is stupid and Mom is a bitch.

I couldn't help liking his Ralph Kramden reference. A sort of "Nothing new under the sun" attitude.

Interesting article, it's good thing the attitude is changing away from stupid dads.

Yay. Hopefully companies will get the picture that their consumers are sick of it and stop producing the crappy ads.
Commercials are awesome, except the annoying ones.

Seeing as how the story's a year old, and nothing's changed, I won't be holding my breath.

Dumb Dad commercials really don't bother me, except the dumb dad always has to be white - now that kind of bugs me a tiny bit.

Sissies really need to quit writing commercials, but no real man would want to, so I guess we are stuck.

Almost seems like all us nice white, heterosexual, virile, strong, extremely handsome dads must have grown up as members of the Hitler Youth which made us tough and thus, we should be able to take it. Yea, that's it - we're tough and nothing is sacred. Heck, we have spent more of our life with women out of our pants than in them...'the endless demands', doncha know...but we're tough. You can make fun of us in commercials - we can take it.

I'm kidding.
I was never a member of the Hitler Youth.
But I want to see more Islamic dumb dads, too. Maybe a few black ones would work, cancha tell...I know they're tough enough to take it, too.

The only time they'll ever portray the black guy as the "dumb" one is if he's with his wife.  Then the "dumb husband" rule takes precedence.

The problem is now they've gone so far the other way that whenever it's a dad in the ad they have to make a BIG DEAL about how it's a DAD or a room full of DADS and mom is never mentioned and never around in these ads. Like someone went "look look we're not sexist anymore let's celebrate the DADS look ARE YOU LOOKING". How about an ad with mom AND dad and dad just happens to be doing the domestic work and you don't make that the main focus? Blatant pandering.
It's ok, I'm in marketing!

WinkYou got it, HD! Without even trying, they've put 'Mom' in her place now, haven't they? (Embarrassedsorry...I couldn't resist!)

There's a hierarchy. From top to bottom:
Spoiled Children
Spoiled white children
Black women
Any woman
Cats
Dogs
Salesmen
Men
White men
