Saw this ad pop up here on CIH.
![]() It's for a one-handed, 24 hr watch that, because it only has one hand which travels around a 24 hr face, it (obviously) moves at ½ the speed of a normal watch's hour hand. Hence the name & accompanying marketing gimmick. The ad, unlike the above screenshot, was animated & had changing panels, one of which featured the following hokey drivel... "Can a watch change your life? slow: The 24 hour one hand watch. slow is not a speed, it's a mindset that most of us somehow lost. Let's make time to bring slow back into our life." Oh, so an overpriced watch that moves half as fast as a regular watch, is going to change my life? How? By making the daily boredom seem even more interminable???? The website is even worse. A slideshow presentation of artsy fartsy b&w pictures of some male model dweeb doing all kinds of "cool hip" frollicky things around NYC, mostly in the company of laughing, upbeat, enthusiastic, beautiful female fashion models, each picture captioned with some trite cliche describing the world of new possibilities that wearing one of their watches could open up to you. https://www.slow-watches.com/the-brand Throughout the entire time I was checking out the ad & the website, all I was thinking was.... "Who even wears watches anymore???? Don't most people nowadays just use their cell phones to tell what time it is??" |

Where's the minute hand?! How the hell am I supposed to know how manys past something it is?! It'll change your life by leaving you homeless and broke, but you'll know what time the food bank opens, and you'll look cool in the line. |

It's a novelty, but it's Swiss made and costs $250-300, so it's an expensive and high quality novelty. I can see getting tired of having to squint to tell the precise time (which sort of negates the "precision" aspect of the watch). As far as "changing your life"? Your friends might say "Hey, that's kinda cool", and then be done with it. That's about it. |

Yeah, I saw an ad for something similar. Only one or possibly a couple were made. Looked like something out of a sci fi flick. Cost $300,000.00. The one in the above ad displays the minutes on the dial in what I'm sure are tiny, tiny markings. So you better either have very good vision or make sure you've always got your reading glasses with you. And it goes for a mere $250.00 |

I guess it beats lying down in the sun with a Victoria's Secret catalog, but I'll still pass.
My truck has a clock, my phone has a clock, clocks everywhere you look. I can think of a bunch of things to better spend $250.00
Oh crap, it's half-past my belly button, I gotta get dressed and get inside. |

I think the idea (ad gimmick) was that it would somehow cause you to slow down & enjoy life. You know... because the hand on your watch moves slower. Gee.... sounds like it would work to me. Here's my money!!!!! |

According to the site, it's also so you can see exactly where you are in the day. If the hand is where the 3 o'clock mark usually is, you know you're 1/4th of the way through the day. I've never really had any problem with that, whether digital or the usual analog way. |

Thank God something has come along to free us from the shackles of that simple arithmetical calculation we used to be chained to in order to figure out that monumentally important piece of information.
Whew!!!! How I've managed to make it thru 57 years, I'll never know. |

![]() ![]() I am fascinated by the sun and the earth and all that makes life possible.
Reminds me of a lesson in Jr. High, a favorite science teacher took us outside on a cold and sunny spring morning.
He showed us that we could get a pretty accurate measurement of the flagpole by also measuring the shadow of a yardstick.

Those are the days that time just stands still. I'm kinda a nature boy myself, and don't you go Rick Flair-ing me. ![]() I do the position of the sun thing pretty often when MrsD and I are outside for any length of time. I can usually get within 5-10 minutes. It never ceases to amaze her, to me it's just getting back to basics. BIG DUMB HILLBILLY HATE TECH!! BIG DUMB HILLBILLY SMASH LAPT |

Even with my glasses, they appear as dots.
BTW, I have been wearing these for like 5 years! |
