Along with that, the characters are now cardboard 1. Then Peter Griffin: goofy, yet lovable/ Now: Just Downright dumb at least he had a little bit of sense in the earlier episodes. 2 Then Lois: sensible wife/ Now: a whore 3: Then Brian: smart, witty, sesnsible/ Now: a desperate drunk, and the puppet where MacFarlane takes advantage the most in your #3 (I don't mind politics or political opinions, but save it for American Dad which odd enough is now better than current Family Guy) 4. Then Chris: just kind of there, dumb-geek, almost easily disposable/ Now: Still the same, but now trying to hard to make him sound witty (he never was witty at the start, just stop) 5: Meg: typical high school girl with typical adolescent insecurities/ Now: just a waste, her family completely hates her (she had some sort of family support in the earlier episodes, but now,YEEESH just harsh) |

Exactly. Peter used to somewhat aloof and kinda dumb, but he still had some basic values and blue-collar common sense. He was a character that many people could relate to or find realistic. Now, he's like a complete ignoramus. He has no intelligence whatsoever, just blind stupidity.
And Brian is basically now a big megaphone for spouting MacFarlane's political stances. I don't really care much about politics having a presence in shows, and I even agree with some of the things represented in the show, but it has no place in a comedy show. People shouldn't be subjected to political banter when they're trying to laugh and relax. Chris, in the early episodes, he was an exaggerated stereotypical teenage boy. Now he's just kind of there. My biggest problem with the show is the continued presence of annoying characters. The chicken who fights with Peter, James Woods, Herbert the Pervert, etc. |

When I get into Family Guy for any stretch of time, I watch it in reruns. Since the reruns seem not to be presented in any chronological order, I don't see the changes that you guys have noted.

I'm actually enjoying the show a little bit more recently. And if anything I think cut-aways have decreased compared to older seasons. I'll also throw in that I think the main reason the main cast has lost some depth is so that there can be more focus on the background cast, which I really like. Quagmire was funny as the town pervert with no morals, but I honestly have really come to love the character due to his recent developments.
But then again, I've never really got into critiquing Family Guy and exploring it in depth. It's a show I can sit down, relax, watch, and laugh, and in the end that's its intention. I also have to throw in that I love how - when people started complaining about Brian being Seth's mouthpiece, we had him become a lot less perfect, and even have someone openly hate him (Quagmire). Say what you will, you have to admire someone actually responding to critique of their show/characters.

It's out there. Google "family guy hentai".
You get to see Meg naked, too.

Defiantly see where you are getting at. I was kind of thinking the same way too with the main cast loosing more depth just to focus more on the B characters. I still continue watching the new seasons just to see where this will go, but I felt like the B characters weren't really pulling me in enough. I have found it interesting out of all the B characters they chose Cleveland to give his own show to (probably to gather more black and other viewers of different races, I don't know), but he still just feels bland to me even some of the comedic aspects, after watching all the episodes of his show. Good point about the Brian thing. Personally, I never felt as though he was a complete straight guy or perfect in the early seasons (especially when interacting with Lois). I could very much see how he could be annoyance, and I laughed when Quagmire just went off on him like that. Hahahahaha Family Guy just got DEEP in here. I do want to do graphic novels in my future and thinking about veering into animation at some point. Stuff like this does interest me a lot. |

I'm glad I stopped watching Pan Am after one episodes. The two sisters have facial expressions like the Go-Daddy girls when they're walking on stage. Plus, the story line about how one of the sisters being a runaway bride and her fiance tracking her down were starting to get old halfway through the episode I watched.

There was an episode quite some time ago when Herbert ending up bothering Stewie, and was finally put in his place by a kid with a really direct line like "Get lost, you perv!!" I couldn't help wishing that that would be the "punch line" to the entire Herbert the Pervert bit, and they would "retire" him as a character right then and there. I mean, why not? But of course it didn't happen.

James Woods died already, and Peter and the Chicken seem to have gone there seperate ways on the issue.
My mum loves Herbert, though, so I get the feeling she'll be sad to see his character finally go.

Even though I don't like much bathroom humor, even I have some definition of "funny" and "unfunny" kinds. And, whatever his other talents are, Seth MacFarlane - bless his heart - just cannot seem to come up with the funny kind. Instead it's squeezed-in-edgewise fart jokes and scat jokes that you can hear done better by 2nd-graders in schoolyards! At least in most episodes I've seen. Except that very early "Toilet training Stewie" episode, with the "Lindbergh" bit and the "shopping for toilet training books" scene.

NBA basketball. BTW, their season starts Christmas Day. I'd rather Santa take a dump down my chimney than watch basketball.

I second that one! One more word about Kim Kardashian and I'll slit my wrists! And just the obnoxious script delivery by the spokes models - yeah, the woman and Billy too. Morons! Here's gotta be 2 of the worst shows ever created. (I wouldn't know about them unless they came on when we weren't prepared for them and spent 60 seconds getting to the remote): "Big Bang Theory" "How I Met Your Mother"

Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness--it's not awesome or funny, and it plays every two something seconds on Nick like it's their new gold mine (the Square's still going though, so that won't happen any time soon).

Shows that have jarring and arbitrary zoom-ins, zoom-outs and camera swivels, like The Office.

It makes it all seem more interesting and "exciting", I guess.
Similarly, segways that have whooshing or drum or guitar or bell sounds. News shows like to use these. Very annoying.

An idea: why not have an annual competition, like a film festival, just for technical people. They can each produce a 5 - 10 minute segment of their very best production tricks and show off their skills and bore each other to death for an entire weekend in, say, Las Vegas each year and give each other gold trophies and stuff. And leave us out of it!

After The Matrix came out, everybody had to copy, overuse, and exaggerate the swivel-cam effect. Then everyone began to tire of it, and it finally got to a point where it became subtler in most cases and less of a gimmick. That needs to happen on these shows. |

Fourth-wall-breaking shows and shows based off an existing franchise. The fourth-wall-breaking was cool when Chowder's first two seasons/shows from the late 90's did it, but now it's overused and annoying. The franchise-continuation shows--you already know about from Panda and Penguins.

As for the flashy zooms and tight, rapid cuts, I've been annoyed by them since waaaay back when MTV used to play, ummm, music videos, and these techniques are still widely used as ever. There may be no hope for that aspect of the business, other than to just take a moment once in awhile to truly appreciate the occasional show or rock video - or even commercial - that has a damn camera that stays still and maintains a fixed focus on the subject!

Some of the more obvious ones like Jersey Shore/anything on MTV except for Beavis and Butthead, reality shows, gossip/entertainment "news", etc. but there are some more specific ones. The Walking Dead. I just remember being so pissed off around Halloween expecting to watch some good horror movies, but they just kept pimping out that show. I hate zombies with a passion and can't wait for this trend to fade back out. They don't do anything interesting, and they don't look gross or scary enough to make up for it with visceral scares. Thirty Rock. I watched this show a few times, and it did nothing for me. I sat there for a half hour thinking to myself "...So where's the funny part?". To me, it just seemed like a half hour stream of absurd/"randomlololol" one liners, satire taking itself too seriously, and popular culture references. Do not want. That Metal Show. Whenever I first heard about this show, I thought "cool, a show about metal bands finally" and I was super excited about watching it but when I tuned in, I was sorely disappointed. More than half of the time, overgrown KISS fanboy Eddie Trunk is complaining about something or bickering with the other two hosts. They mostly discuss bands that haven't done anything since the 1980's, which would be fine if they were at least partially worth remembering. Every now and then, they'll bring a guest who is worthwhile onto the show, such as Rob Halford or Kirk Hammet, to prove that they don't only discuss washed up hair bands that have been forgotten longer than I've been alive. It's also on VH1 Classic constantly and I'm sick of wandering around the channels late night trying to avoid it, which just makes it worse. Tosh.0, I can only handle in small doses. Occasionally, the show makes me laugh, but most of that comes from watching the clip, and not from Tosh himself. Generally, Tosh just sounds like some insecure twerp who needs to bring others down with him in order to feel better about himself and Mommie didn't hug him enough growing up. I actually avoid Comedy Central in general nowadays. The only shows I enjoy on there I can find on any other channel. The channel's basically become a wasteland of TV flops because only so many Americans are frat boy slobs who play with their weiners all day long. I'm gonna have to agree with everyone who's said Family Guy. It seems that no matter what, I will always have to find ways to avoid it. I can't even stand listening to it. Peter's and Lois' voices are like nails down a chalkboard and I hate the "flashbacks" that drag on for what seems like three or four minutes too long. We get the joke. No, seriously. Can we move on yet? I assume he's using these as "filler" gags, to waste time because the show doesn't contain enough content to keep the story moving. Seth McFarlane appears to gratuitously insert unnecessary throwaway pop culture references just to use them and somehow force them into the context. Peter Griffin is just ignorant and mean-spirited. Stewie's constantly at odds with his identity. Brian's self righteous. Lois Griffin is completely unrelatable as a mother and apparently Seth McFarlane is really pushing the MILF image as far as it can go and is dragging it through the dirt. Chris Griffin is just...there, but I agree with what others are saying that they're attempting to make him witty. The only character I really empathize for is Meg Griffin, through whom Seth McFarlane uses as a vehicle to propogate bullying and abuse. Apparently, Seth McFarlane has a hateboner for diminishing the self-worth of insecure teenaged girls. How nice.

I love that show! I just "discovered" it two weekends ago when I ended up watching a 16-hour Walking Dead marathon, and then the new season premiere. But I've loved zombies ever since I first saw Night of the Living Dead.
