bwestfall...no doubt there are some thoughtful, intelligent reality shows. I think reality shows run the gamut.

Oh, I agree there are a few, but part of my problem with "reality" shows is that they are not Real, so why are they called that? Actors play a role and most reality show characters play a role, only difference is that actors' characters just don't usually have the same name. Well, and the acting is generally better.

Well, I think they also run the gamut from fake (Operation Repo, Cheaters) to real (Intervention, Hoarders, Ice Road Truckers). There are probably plenty in the middle, too, but I don't watch enough reality TV to know. Maybe Hell's Kitchen?

There's so much of that on TV these days that whenever I see it, I feel zero sympathy for their stupid little problems. It could be some model-wannabe crying about the pain of having been 20 lbs overweight in high school, and those tears just flow.
"Quitcher damned blubberin'! Christ almighty!" is my usual reaction.

...about now, I really have to speak out with a few SIMPLE examples of what, in MY books, just 'does not work and what does; Not excited - just doesn't "git it": Aaaaand - one that really has me excited! I absolutely love this one! (well, I've been an 'Antiques Roadshow' fan for many years, so it was easy)
The Keno brothers are absolutely at the TOP of knowing what the heck they are talking about - to just sit and listen to either of the twins is a treat - a history lesson - in itself; known of them for many years - one of my 'ultimate field days' would be to actually meet them.
These guys are NO JOKE - FOX got this one right - but then again, any channel that can get this series seems to be grabbing it.

Just when I thought the whole dwarf fad was dying out, I see Hulk Hogan has a new reality show that stars wrestling dwarves. I might watch an episode or two. I think it's called Micro Wrestling and it's going to be on TruTV.

I think we might be seeing the groundwork being set for next reality show. Seems Obama dinner crasher, Michaele (which I think is pronounced Michelle despite the fact that it looks more like Michael) Salahi, who was in one of the "Real Housewives" shows last year, has run off with Journey guitarist Neal Schon.
If this isn't begging for its own show, nothing is. I hope she and her husband, as well as Schon, have children in order to add another element of dysfunction to the show.

There's this billboard I often drive by on I294 North (Chicago area) for a "Gentleman's Club" called Blackjack. It's pink with a sexy blonde siren on it. Seems like something that could turn into a reality show sometime soon (maybe on E!).

Here's the link to the website - 'Season 6' is great.
Here are 11 minutes (Canadian) of 'pure pleasure'. You can thank me later.

Part 2 with the shopping spree is hilarious. I wish we got that show, we have Holme's American Handyman. Kinda boring.

Well, o.k. then...that is indeed one show that is pretty boring - and the only Holmes show MissyDWolf doesn't watch. If you can find 'Holmes on Homes', or 'Holmes Inspection', those are actually pretty good.
The current 'Canada's Worst Handyman' (Season 6) is quite romantic and was actually filmed quite close to home...

............ We get those, which I watch. I don't think they'd show "Canada's" worst handyman down here. There's always YouTube though.

I can't imagine that anyone who has a bedroom like that actually "scores" very often. No sheets?? Girls love mattress stains.

This evokes the same reaction from me as does Celebrity Ghost Stories. What makes celebrity nightmares different or more compelling than anyone else's? The fact that celebs are relaying these nightmares and ghost stories, makes them even less credible. They're celebs, fer Chrissakes! They're all about presenting stuff to the public that may or may not be real.

I'm not into most reality shows but I love food and drink orientated shows.
Has anyone seen "The Regulars" pilot that is floating around the web? I hear the show is about to be picked up and aired. It's actually pretty damn funny. It's basically 2 guys going around the country drinking at local bars and trying to become "regulars" which usually entails them doing crazy and bizarre things. One of the guys is the brother of Chris Cooley on the Redskins. I would suggest checking it out. You can watch the pilot here : http://theregulars.tv/ |

Reality TV should die a horrible death. That's the reason why i've written this post.

Fourth. I just wish there were more House Hunters-esque shows for reality TV. You actually would care more (if they picked tolerable people, of course).
