I was on Facebook, having remembered after months that I had an account there, and I saw an ad for a "Solve old geometry and maths puzzles so you can brag to your friends about how clever you are" quiz, and, being terribly bored, clicked. After submitting the answer to the first question, a frustratingly worded question about who in a group is the shortest, I got this popup:

So I clicked the magical red X to get rid of the annoyance.

Oh, boy! A secret crush! I can hardly wait. I clicked OK.

Cancel kept me on the page as it said. I tried to close the page. I was again notified of a secret crush, then asked to verify that I wanted to navigate away from the page. This continued until I disabled Javascript. I went to close the HAI I'M TEH SMART game. If they were going to pull sh*t like that, I wasn't going to bother. The same thing happened. Crush! Navigate away? Crush! Navigate away? Exit. Crush! Navigate away? But this time I pressed OK -- it was the one I hadn't done before. It closed the window. Apparently they don't expect you to pay attention. It works. D:

I get pop-ups from my toolbars asking me to update my Java crap.  I never do.  People on the internet say don't bother.  I never have.  If this is the stuff I'm missing out on, I'm glad.

Yeah, I love the 'toolbar popups'. Especially when I'm running Linux and have the browser zoomed in on a page so that the mimic Windows Live Messenger popup alert appears in the middle of the page. Oh, funny-unny.

Thor - just disable it. Start->Run->"msconfig"->ok - in that box go to startup, find something with "jusched.exe" in the command column, and uncheck it.

If I get a pop up I right click bottom of the browser to close the window or task manager to kill it.  Those boxes are a sham as you have found out.  Also FIREFOX does a nice job of avoiding those nasties.

Between adaware and firefox, I see about one ad a month. I really forget they're there sometimes. It's great.
