Thank You DKS!

Somewhere I believe DKS had a thread on Devour Buffalo Chicken Mac &  Cheese.
His fault.
Introduced me to this *other* addiction I now have (to go with my tea), the entire lineup of Devour microblast meals.
I started with his recommendation on the Buff Mac & Cheese, and I'm hooked...and then I've started trying their other plates.
They ALL are just TOO darned tasty.
Try them if you get a chance.

Well, I didn't start the Devour thread, but I did reply to it mentioning I was a big fan of the Buff Mac. It's the one I go to most often, though none of the ones I've tried have been bad.

What's bad is the fact I now come up with really stupid reasons to eat more than I should - such as, oh..."...the freezer seems a little 'overstocked' - we need some room in there! Maybe I should get rid of (eat) one of these 'Devours'..."LOL

You can't go wrong at $3 each - especially the 'to die for' Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese

Their "3 meat pizza" isn't bad - for 3 bucks anyway.

I've had the enchilada, which is good, the lasagna, the famous 'spanked lunch' - mac & cheese with bacon, and more often than anything else, the buffalo chicken mac & cheese.
The only one I really haven't been tempted to try is the chicken & waffles.
Never understood that meal.

My second fave after the buffalo chicken mac is the angus BBQ beef one that comes with jalepeno cornbread.

Good idea to do that while you're eating.

Lessens the chance that you'll miss your mouth and stuff your food up your nose.

I LOVE Devour meals! Tongue They are DELICIOUS and I buy them constantly! They are also extremely reasonable, just about $4 for something vthat would be like $12 in an Italian restaurant(Devour meals are delicious Italian based pasta/ravioli/macaroni/ etc dinnersTongue

Yeah they're $3-3.50 around here too.

Don't know if you got them yet, but I saw they have some new varieties around here also. There's a "sweet and tangy" pulled pork with some kinda bourbon glazed sweet potatoes as a side, a bacon topped meatloaf with spicy ketchup with garlic mac and cheese as a side, and a "chicken cordon bleu" mac and cheese dish. I haven't checked them out yet but it's on the agenda.

They seem kinda skimpy for the price.

If you want to get full, you'd need at least two of them and probably three.

Maybe if they ever put them on BOGO special I might try a couple.

I'd need at least two. And some fries or tots on the side.

It would probably put me over my sodium limit for the entire week, not to mention the carbs.

Okay, three or four days, maybe.

Check you local specials - Food Lion has all DEVOUR meals 2 for $5 right now. They WILL sell you 1 for $2.50.
Go get your Buffalo Chicken Cheese Mac.

1 meal for $2.50?
Ready in 6 minutes?
Much tastier and faster, and cheaper than McD's, KFC, TB...and once purchased, you can fix it whenever you want, in your underpants (if you so desire)

The only Food Lion around here is too far to drive.

And I would never microwave it. Certainly not from frozen.

Microwaves are only good for quick thawing frozen food, IMO.

I'd let them thaw in the fridge overnight then bake them with real, dry heat in the oven the way food should be prepared.

Maybe even take them out of the cardboard and put them in a baking dish first.

Tastier and cheaper, but not faster...at least not here. I can actually drive to the closest McD's, place my order, get my food, and get back in under 4 minutes.

If I was dictator anyone who ruined mac and cheese by baking it would be sentenced to 10 years hard labor.

I assume this stuff is better than the Kraft macaroni and cheese.  I used to like Kraft.  After I had mac and cheese with real cheese (rather than that orange powder), though, the Kraft stuff became history.  Tasted like bland mush.

I think you must descend from some royal bloodline. Never have to be in a rush, never starved. Life was a bed of roses, eh?
Thank the Big Guy Above for inviting illegal aliens and extraterrestrials to help us invent microwave ovens and meals. Cooks in a minute, tastes like sh*t, does the job! Until you get to Devour...and these take 5-6 minutes to cook right and, being I've not tasted excrement, all I can say is they taste GREAT!
Some of us need 'Taste Great' and 'Fast Food' to come together for us - but again, that's 'some of us'.
Now, I guess I must ask a question about 'being proper'...not only am I a roaming wolf, I'm a PIG. I *like* to eat and I wanna eat NOW - not tomorrow morning, not 'after it thaws'. The last person who told me 'patience is a virtue' died. Yup. Right up kicked the bucket because of patience. So, no stinkin' 'dry heat' easybake oven and what real man even KNOWS what a baking dish is?! Am*I* IMproper for not owning one o'those white ceramic oval baking dishes, if not five? You know, one of those soufflé dishes? Mind you, I'm a MAN, so I have no idea what I am talking about, when it comes to 'Women's Arts' and the 'French Lingo'.
(Embarrassedwell, I do, 'cause she made me cook for the fam...)
Let's see...the 'great potato famine', 'the American dustbowl', 'Grapes Of Wrath'...you familiar with the histories or the story? My family line barely escape the hell of the 'starving times', before Pampers, toilet paper, flushable potties, and showers with soap, razors, teethbrushes, and, of course, deodorant.
We never forgot, so we're thankful for our TASTY fast food.

Stouffer's is really good.  I've found store brands of frozen mac and cheese that are good, too.  Sometimes, they're actually too "cheesey" for me, so I cook up more macaroni or cavatappi and mix it in.  I do the same with macaroni salad.

Ugh dear lord no, macaroni with a crust is like pumpkin pie with goat urine. I mean sure, you CAN add it, but it's certainly nothing I would consider eating if I had any choice!

Side note, I wanted to try the new varieties, but when I went to the store apparently everyone had the same idea, cause the only one they had any left in stock was the bacon topped meatloaf with spicy ketchup and garlic mac and cheese, and they were almost out of that one too. I did get one of those though and had it last night, it was pretty tasty, but not as filling as the buffalo mac.

Wait a minute... you actually LIKE mac & cheese with GARLIC??? ...

But you balk at it with a cheesey crispy, golden baked bread crumb crust????

The goat urine sounds better than garlic, which afaic, has become an over used "fad" spice.

Seems like every pretentious, hipster restaurant (and frozen food company trying to emulate them), wants to ruin perfectly good food with friggin garlic because it's hip and trendy.

Yuck.

I suppose next it will be mac & cheese with chutney. Or Chipotle.

Arugula.

I guess it takes "all kinds"...

I like garlic well enough(I don't see it added to many things though, not sure what you're referring to there) but tbh the mac and cheese doesn't have a garlic taste. Also, I dunno what that kinda abomination that picture you posted is, but it's clearly not mac and cheese. M&C is supposed to be soft and gooey, once you make it crispy, it's no longer mac and cheese, just like if you order a steak extra well done it's no longer a real steak, it's a piece of vaguely edible leather.

You must not watch many cooking shows. You've never heard of garlic mashed potatoes? Garlic chicken wings? Garlic mussels? Garlic shrimp? You name it, some chefs seem to think it's necessary to dump garlic into everything they make.

The rest of that business above is just your opinion. Not every version of a given dish has to always be made the same.

The stuff in the picture I posted looks delicious. Seems fairly obvious that it's only the top crust that gets brown and crispy while the stuff underneath stays soft and gooey.

Speaking of abominations, I'm thinking maybe you guys are only familiar with that Kraft/Velveeta boxed crap with the cheese-like chemical goo in the foil envelope that you squeeze out like orange poop.

That sounds exactly like what you're talking about.

Looks good to me too.

Of course when you do that it becomes more of a casserole, but as Billy Joel might say, ...it's still mac-n-cheese to me.

Personally, I like it with cubed, sauteed ham and diced green peppers.

I had to Google these meals because they sound delicious. Then I read the nutrition label. bad news...h. That buffalo Mac and cheese meal is 74% sodium.

Yep.

I briefly alluded to the sodium content on the previous page.

If I were to ever give it a try, it would have to be a one time thing or occasional treat at best.

These prepared, packaged foods nowadays are sodium bombs.

I think I heard something about the FDA pressuring food manufacturers to set a goal of reducing the sodium content of their products by a certain year.

Speaking of abominations, I'm thinking maybe you guys are only familiar with that Kraft/Velveeta boxed crap with the cheese-like chemical goo in the foil envelope that you squeeze out like orange poop.

I'm about to turn 36, garlic mashed potatoes, shrimp, and wings have been around longer than I have(same as garlic bread), so you can hardly cite them as some modern hipster example of adding garlic to everything. Never heard of garlic mussels. Doesn't sound appealing, though.

And no, I don't touch Kraft or Velveeta mac & cheese, that stuff is nasty. I'm talking about real mac and cheese, which doesn't have a crust(and sorry, that pic? the mac under the crust doesn't look gooey at all, it looks dry, which is exactly how it has been every single  time I've eaten mac fixed like that).

Well, those were the only examples I could think of off the top of my head. If you ever watch some of these modern cooking shows or even some travel shows where they explore the fashionable, hipster enclaves of various cities, and do featured segments on these stereotypical shaved headed young culinary school graduate, hipster restaurant owner/entrepreneur chefs, you'll hear them yammering about creating fu-fu dishes with garlic this and garlic that.

Whatever.

You are under no obligation to believe me as it doesn't affect me one way or the other.

Again, your opinion.

That and a $6 will get you a small coffee at Starbucks.

A lot of people like their mac-n-cheese with a crispy baked bread crumb and cheese top crust. What is "real" mac-n-cheese to you might not be to others. Many of them also know how to make it so it isn't dry.

And since you are not the arbiter of such things, again, your opinion is just that, and as such, has no meaning to anyone but you.

Maybe you're just not a very good cook...?

Try this....

http://judyskitchen.blogspot.com/2011/04/cooks-country-macaroni-and-cheese.html" rel="nofollow - Cook's Country mac-n-cheese recipe

Maybe it will help you.

(Note the "not dry" appearance of the underlying pasta)

To each their own.  Smile  I know what Jimbo is saying about the garlic in everything.  Since I'm half Italian, I have a genetic disposition to liking garlic, but usually only in Italian food.  Wink  I also wear a necklace of garlic around my neck at night in bed to ward off vampires.  Shocked  Garlic mashed potatoes?  No!  I like mashed potatoes to be the American (or English) way.  Jack in the Box now has the Buttery Jack burger with garlic mixed in with butter.  (It's pretty good if you like garlic.)

I like the crusty topping type of macaroni and cheese, as well as the traditional.

Garlic is ABSOLUTELY ok in Italian food. As long as it isn't overpowering. Garlic bread is a MUST with spaghetti, lasagna etc.

But this whole modern fad of putting it in everything... like macaroni & cheese... is just too much IMO.

Nice gooey mac & cheese with a crunchy crust on top is just a bit of Heaven in Earth!!!

I don't cook it like that to begin with, cause I only eat mac and cheese, not that sh*tty crusty stuff that some people pretend is mac and cheese. But I've had plenty of other people's attempts at it. Always dryer than mac and cheese has any right to be.

You can enjoy the crusty crap if you want. You can enjoy a well done steak if you want. You can enjoy pizza topped with peas and mayo(I recently learned this is a real thing) if you want. But it's not real mac, not real steak, and not real pizza.

It's not one of my favorite meals. It's one of my favorite meals when I don't feel like going out for something, or don't feel like cooking anything. I work overnights. I normally sleep to around 9 pm, then I start getting ready for work at 10, so I have a fairly short window between waking up and going to work. Frozen dinners are perfect for that window, and these are better than most.

Wow...how we get off-track only to find out who the leaders and followers are and to force others to defend themselves and otherwise hurt them. This is the 'Recommend/Don't Recommend' forum and I understand it is easy to cross into 'Agree/Condemn' arenas.
Let me speak from the positive-side and once again express thank DKS. Because of his initial comments, I still eat the Buffalo Mac & Cheese. I remember people's names or 'handles' when they do or say something that impresses me in some form or fashion, others either aren't as lucky, or are luckier (depending upon your point of view). And I don't care is 91% hot, cheesy, dripping salt - I KNOW that it may kill me next week, but I LIKE it, and that's what counts when it comes to fast, filling, tasty meals in the 'Book of Life According to Paw'. DKS? The next time I'm in your neighborhood, the Buffalo Mac & Cheese is on me.

Just make sure that prior to cooking it and serving it to him, you apply a nice, heavy coating of bread crumbs and grated/shredded cheese, then bake it in a real oven until the top is a crispy golden brown and the mac & cheese underneath is a bit on the dry side.

That's the only way he likes it!!!

Nothing against DKS and his eating habits, I know how it feels to need food at odd hours when there is nothing in the house.

I bought 4 of these Devour meals, I didn't get to them quick enough so the wife ate 3 of them.
2 of the choices were her's anyway.

In truth, the buffalo mac is the main one worth trying. Don't get me wrong, most of the ones I've had aren't bad or anything(I wasn't real big on the chicken enchilada one), but the buffalo mac is both better and more filling than any of the others I've tried(I finally found the chicken cordon bleu mac in stock today, so I will put it to the test soon).

I tried the chicken cordon bleu mac and cheese tonight. It's good, but it does not dethrone the buffalo mac. It is a bit more filling on a per meal basis than the angus beef or the meatloaf ones, though.

I was looking at some of the "Devour" meals at the market the other day.   I have to watch my used to be girlish figure so the fat, carb and calorie content wouldn't work for me.   But every so often I pick up a Stouffer's mac and cheese and have at it.   I'll try the "Devour" for a special treat or share it with a friend as a side dish !

When the craving hits for me, I get Lean Cuisine mac and cheese and then add some grated cheddar--just defeating the whole purpose.   My own homemade mac and cheese with sauteed onions, bechamel, and at least two different cheeses is the bomb.  Wink  The Prince company used to make "casserole elbows" macaroni but some years ago they stopped selling it and shrunk the noodles down and still called it that.  My late mother bought up every box she could find !  When I cleaned out her pantry closet last summer there were about 15 boxes in there.  She did that with every packaged food she enjoyed.  It was a big job !  Can Can sales at Shoprite....who needs 346 cans of chick peas ?!

'Chickpeas' was a dirty word when the fambly was all together. The Missus would tolerate roaches and mice ahead of chickpeas. I never had the heart to tell her how and what the healthiest pasta was made from ('Banza' pasta).

Their line really seems to be growing lately. They've added some sandwhich things(NOT recommended, btw), a cajun alfredo with chicken and sausage(this one's good), a loaded potatoes with beef and bacon(pretty good), a tortellini alfredo with Italian sausage(also pretty good), and several others. The Buffalo mac is still king, though.

I also noticed Marie Callenders and Banquet(with their "Mega Bowls") have gotten in on the Buffalo mac act too, but neither of them is as good as the Devour. The Marie Callenders version was decent, and a bit cheaper than the Devour, so if you've got a craving but don't wanna pay Devour prices, it's not a bad choice. The Banquet was okay but not something I'd recommend. Costs about the same as the Marie Callender, so it's also cheaper than the Devour(and I think it may have a little larger serving too) but the taste is just not as good as either of the others.

Awww, it was just a little joke, snowflake.

The opportunity for a witty bit of word play presented itself (chickpeas --> chicks pee) so I took it.

How can you blame me??? How could I have passed up such an opportunity???

Besides, it woulda lost all the spontaneity if I'd moved it to the poli forum.

Pleases try to forgive me....

Well, the snowflakes and pussy hat wearers are on your side of the aisle.  Tongue  I thought Trump was the one who was doing the peeing in the golden showers stories, according to the fake Russian dossier.  But whatever...  I can't keep up with all the political sexcapades, real or imagined.

I forgive you, and am sorry for sounding too harsh.  Smile

I was at my regional discount grocery mart yesterday so I checked the frozen food aisle. They had 5 different Devour meals but not the Buffalo Mac and Cheese that I wanted to try. Price was decent at $2.58.
