This new McDonald's daily double commercial trends away from the "hip" image that they've been putting out for a while and shows that white people are stupid.

I think the thing that bothers me most is the pasteurized process imitation American cheese food spread thing sticking out of the burger.

I don't think this qualifies under the "white people are stupid" theme.

No. It's more like PEOPLE who make commercials are STUPID and they annoy me.

I wonder if I could ask for the burger without the "cheese like substance" and actually get it that way?

Good one. This ad totally screams "White People are Stupid." You have the stupid white lackey playing errand-boy to the co-workers, who are "of color." Not to mention McDonalds' own business model is called "Black 24/7," which was pointed out by some members of this forum. They totally admit to catering to blacks, hence the new sweet drink campaign.

Indeed.
Yet another winner of the "Puttin' 'da Clown White Clown Down" award.

I'm SO sick of this manner of advertising - it actually pushes me away from retailers.

Homey don't frequent 'McGhetto's', but then again, I guess everyone has to have a job - a future - an opportunity. If THIS is the way McGhetto's wants to pander to the a specific ethnic community, well..."..c'mon all ya lil'black chilluns! Let's flip some burgers 'till the day ya die!"Confused.
Go for it...and I'll take my business to Wendy's or Tim Horton's.

"Mcghettos'sSmile" Is everywhere, the radio , tv. Have not tried Wendys for some time. Local management can have a huge effect on the quality at ANY fast food place. I worked at Churches Chicken for a time when I was young. Fast food sucks. You go home smelling like the products you prepare.  McDonalds is only for convenience and rarely satisfying. We cook here most of the time.

Good point - and to add on, I've sometimes noticed the consumer excretes an odor that makes playing "Three Guesses Where I Last Ate" an easy, yet disgusting, game to play.

LOL You'll have to wait a few minutes while your burger gets sent back. Someone(with no gloves) will pluck that "cheese like substance" off. Seeing that you're a stupid white person, you'll never notice it.

I know what you're talking about. If you can actually get something deleted you are lucky. I have requested no pickles at more than one fast food joint. 9 out of 10 times I have to pick them off. This includes Burger King (have it your way). I have to assume the "chefs" cannnot understand a simple request. By the way, although being a "stupid white person" I will still see the "cheese like substance" bits stuck to the bun!

I make requests at Whataburger all the time and get them right, they seem to be pretty good about this.

As for McDonalds, I go there when I want something breakfast related, really really quickly. Anytime I'm not in an extreme hurry(and don't want to cook myself or go to a sitdown restaurant) I go to Whataburger.

It's tolerable. And I said, I eat it when I'm in too big a hurry to get something I like more.

This just reminded me of when Carl's Jr first opened in Oegon. I went to the counter and there was a placard advertizing their fish sandwich. I ordered this and the "kid" across the counter could not produce it! I turned the placard around and they were still clueless. They called out the 20 year old manager who discovered this sandwich was not on the icon cash register. Some time later I was watching the Military Channel which was showing a documentary on the M-1 Abrams tank. The gunner's position had a ammunition selection display that looked just like a fast food cash register! Heaven help us! "Yes Sir! High Energy Anti Tank (HEAT) round"! "Would you like to super size that"!!!

I still like the McDonald's $1 Double cheeseburger. For the money it's a darn good sandwich. They want to charge another .99 for another piece of cheese and some lettuce and tomato. I'll keep my .99 and eat my salad at home!

Yes. McDonald's $1 Double cheeseburger. That was the one with the "cheese like substance" that caused me to gag when faced with a "cheese" burger. If I (as already stated) could get the dailey double sans "cheese" I would try it. With "salad".

I hate McDonald's food and I hate their race pandering.  I decided to take my business to Burger King instead, they don't go out of their way to put black people on a pedestal in every single commercial they run like McD's does.

ConfusedHeyyyy...wasn't even thinking of you, Brobo! Hope you didn't take that wrong - I was yapping about the customer (even on occasion - myself). I've noticed my own 'body scent' resembling 'McCow', after a Bic Mac...and even noticed it on othersDead ("...yea - *I* know what YOU had for lunch!", I've thought when experiencing such an event).

Yeah, as far as fast food burger joints, I prefer them over any other. There's quite a few of them around here, but the nearest is around 12 minutes away, so it's still a half hour trip or more by the time I get there, get my food, and get home. Naturally, I have a McDonalds and Sonic just 2 minutes up the road from my house...

That's pretty much true of a lot of cooks. The smells get on your clothes and your person. I find this happens a lot especially when cooking meat.

Well when they have "urban" commercials that make the people in them look cool and hip and then the first non urban ad they come out with in a while making the people in them look like forgetful morons.

I have a dream - white people having enough and leaving McDonald's to depend entirely on proceeds coming from the urban ghetto element they continually advertise to. I would so love to see McDonalds crash and burn for its arrogance - too bad there's too many stupid people bolstering it for that to happen.

People do it all the time.

I'm not sure what people think we do to their food, but we're not all spitting in it (even if we really want to sometimes), I promise.

It's easier to laugh about how unintelligent and unsanitary all of its employees are, apparently.

For the record, the employees are required to wash their hands, wear and change their gloves, and have their hair worn back if it's long so hair won't get in our food.

It may be where I work, but the food is always fully cooked when I'm working, and only when we're extremely busy, is it occasionally someone messes up someone's order. Usually if someone messes something up, it's either that the customer changed their mind or made a request after the food was already prepared or the cashier made an error. Afterall, we can only make what appears on the screen for us to make.

I'd hate to break it to you guys, but I'm sure what's being served at all the "cool" restaurants is about questionable as the food is at McDonald's. If you don't enjoy our food, fine, but snobbery really bugs me.

Yeah, this is really a bit of a stretch now.

Frankly, as a white McDonald's employee, I'm pretty offended by the comments in this thread about McDonald's employees. I'm working on my education. Sorry that what I'm doing to get by isn't glamorous enough for you guys.

No need to be offended.  Unless I missed it, no one called McDonalds employees stupid.

JimAyzing was referring to the white guy in the commercial, who was a customer, not an employee.  Someone else referred to the advertisers as stupid.  Someone else mentioned the employees getting an order wrong, which probably has more to do with carelessness than stupidity.

I've never had a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder.  Not once.  Whenever I'd go to McDonalds, I always got the same thing---2 cheeseburgers, fries and a Coke.  Sometimes, I'd get a shake or a cone afterwards.

Takes one to know one.  Not that I'm saying all white people are stupid, just that the makers of the commercials are just modeling them after what they see in the mirror.

Well, let me just say first, that getting a Coke/drink is just a waste of money.

I NEVER get a drink at fast food places. That's where they really make their profits. A cup of soda probably costs them about a quarter, if that much. And they're hitting you for over a BUCK!!!

Secondly, if you've never had a Big Mac, you're missing out on one of the simple, sloppy pleasures of life. The "special sauce" (glorified Thousand Island dressing) combined with the lettuce, tomato, pickles & onions along with the gooey melted cheese all complimenting the two all beef patties on a sesame seed bun is just a true gut-filling joy that everyone should treat themselves to occasionally.

And don't forget the fries!!!! Gotta have those.

It's kinda like eating at Krystal.

Nasty, but a good nasty.

Oh, how I miss those glorious days when Big Macs were 99¢ each.

(singing, mournfully now)...

If I-I-I-I could save ti-i-i-i-i-ime in a bottle....

The first thing that I'd like to do-o-o-o-o-o-o.....

Is to save every day (of 99¢ Big Macs) till eternity ends....

Then again, I would spend them.......

.....well, eating 99¢  Big Macs, I suppose. Tongue

Even as a kid I hated their burgers.  I'd get the Happy Meal (do they even still have those?), but would just eat the fries and pick at the burger a little bit, but wouldn't eat the whole thing.  I was more interested in whatever the promotional toy was that came with the meal.

I could do without the lettuce and tomato, Jimbo.  In fact, a long time ago, I used to discard the pickles, too.  Eventually, I came to love those soggy ketchup-covered things, removing them from the cheeseburger so that I can enjoy them all on their own in all their soggy ketchup-covered goodness.

But I once bought a double-cheeseburger.  Then, I realized it was twice the price---for twice the meat but only 1 and 1/2 times the amount of bread.  So, I went back to regular cheeseburgers.  It wasn't so much that I wanted that extra piece of bun; it was the principle of it.  I'm highly principled, you know.

Double cheeseburgers have the exact same amount of bread that single cheeseburgers do.

You're just paying extra for the 2nd patty.

Only the Big Mac has the extra half a bun in the center.

I used to buy the DCB when it was on the 99¢ menu.

Now they have the "McDouble" which is basically a double cheeseburger, but with only one slice of cheese, rather than two like the DCB has, & it's only 99¢.

Check it out, ya sorry-ass lettuce & tomato-hatin bastard.

I've done the "two-single-cheeseburger-rather-that-one-double-cheeseburger" thing before too, but only when they were having the singles on a special sale price.

I still prefer the DCB though, because you get twice the meat in every bite.

The singles are just sort of dry because of the higher bread-to-meat ratio.

I prefer a higher meat-to-bread ratio.

That's why I like the McDouble.

And, I can get them for 99¢ each!!! Thumbs Up

What I'd do when I'd get two singles on sale (4 actually, because I always require two of whatever it is) is that I'd put the patty from two, onto the other two, thus making two double burgers. Then, I'd take the remaining buns home, wrap them up in a plastic bag & use them to make a couple of sandwiches out of the next day. LOL

Yeah, but you can buy 2 cheeseburgers and just discard the extra bread.  And you can make it real obvious by parading around the place with the extra bun between your fingers, announcing to everyone there that you're just gonna flagrantly toss the extra bun in the garbage in order to stick it to the man, man!

Possibly.

And while I do agree that they tend to pander to "people of color", I don't think the "dumb guy" thing has as much to do with them wanting to make whites more likable, as much as it is not wanting to offend non-whites by making them appear subordinate in a situation where whites are present.

It's OK to make a non-white play the "dumb guy" when there are only other non-whites present, but when a white guy is there, he has to be the dumb guy.

That's mainly acceptable when there's a black guy with his wife.  Then, the "men are stupid/women are smart" meme wins out.

I think it's so funny that, in our determination to become (or appear to have become) color-blind, we've achieved the opposite.

Most "dumb guy" characters are pretty likable, to me, anyway.

Who have some of the classic "dumb guy" roles have been?

Maynard G. Krebs, Gilligan, Jethro Bodine, Sargeant Shultz, Barney Fife, Ensign Parker, Gomer Pyle, Goober Pyle, Homer Simpson....

I don't think we're ever at the end of any road. We're just at a certain point on it.

The day will come I think, maybe a decade or two from now, where all that will have morphed into something new.

I suppose one day it will be hip & fashionable for blacks to be portrayed as the (generic, non-racial stereotype) dumb guys in a "see how far we've come that we can do this & not offend anyone" kind of way.

Sort of a "true equality" kind of mentality.

AAMOF, I think we're already beginning to see that.

Here's an example:

Of course, in this ad, they're both sorta "dumb guys", but the white guy is cast as the magnanimous (albeit slobby) one for just letting the stain on his sofa cushion slide.

I know I woulda been spraying something on that right away!!!

I guess I liked all those guys, too (not so much Homer Simpson).  Woody Boyd was OK, too.  Joey Tribiani (Friends) kind of annoyed me, but not too badly.

Maybe Kutcher ruined the likeable dumb-guy thing for me.

Maybe so.  Maybe people like us here at CIH and in other forums discussing the way blacks and whites are portrayed, is part of the process.  Next, maybe the regular media will stop ignoring the phenomenon.  If you look this matter up on the 'net, you'll see it's being discussed, but mainly in blogs and forums---not in any of the major media.

LOL I was watching that show at my mom's house just the other day. It was the episode where he got thrown out of Mrs. What's-her-name's house where he rented a room, for cooking chili on a hot plate & almost burning the place down.

He had to stay at the jail until he found a new place, so while Andy & Opie were walking home from the movies they stopped in to see how it was going.

Barney had been in there making out with Thelma Lou & had so much lipstick smeared all over his face, it looked like she had been trying to eat his face off!!!! Shocked

Yeah, I was trying to think of some more moderen ones & Woody slipped my mind, which is odd because I was just looking for a Cheer's clip on YouTube that featured him, for another forum, about a half hour ago.

Looked like it was heading in that direction.

They had the lights off & Barney was chasing her around the place.

I liked watching Friends in reruns in the early 2000s.  It's been awhile since I watched it.  The show had some great writing, especially seen in characters Chandler and Phoebe.

And, of course, the show had Jennifer Aniston, too.

When I was growing up one of TV's "dumb white guys" was Vinton Harper in Mama's Family.  I watched the Andy Griffith Show a lot too, though obviously as reruns.

Then of course Don Knotts had his role in Three's Company.

I loved both those shows LOL

Mama's Family was great!

Hey, what ever happened to that first set of kids?  Did Thelma kill 'em and bury them under the house?  Maybe Iola was keeping them as sex slaves at her house?

Buzz & Sonia were their names, right?  I'm not sure whatever happened, though the Iola slave theory's a good one LOL

One of my favorite episodes was when Thelma had to take Naomi to a Lamaze class.  She scared the living hell out of the pregnant women in the class by telling them "how it really is" both during and after  birth LOL

EDIT - I'll be damned, here it is LOL

Yeah, this is really a bit of a stretch now.

Frankly, as a white McDonald's employee, I'm pretty offended by the comments in this thread about McDonald's employees. I'm working on my education. Sorry that what I'm doing to get by isn't glamorous enough for you guys.

HEY! I was a white McDonald's employee and yes, it did put me through 2-1/2 years of college! It may not have been a glamorous job, but it was a lot of fun. Mostly everyone was the same age, and I made a lot of friends and some fleeting romances! 1978-1981 were my Golden Arches days. Ha - now I'm looking at my golden years! (soon enough, anyway!)

While nobody directly called fast food employees stupid, I was more or less addressing Tiz's and SgtRock's comments implying we're incompetent (messing up the order 9/10 times) and dirty (someone with no gloves will pluck the cheese off with their bare hands).

Maybe they go to a bad McDonald's, but we can only make what appears on the screen for us and, like I said, sometimes the cashier made an error or someone's changed their order after we finished making the food, not to mention that when it gets busy and you're trying to keep up with multiple orders at once, it gets confusing, and can it take longer to prepare food sometimes? Yeah. Sometimes we're understaffed and sometime we simply run out of product when we don't expect to.

Sometimes, I just get a little tired of the "incompetent/careless slob" stereotype people use to describe fast food employees. I work with a couple of lazy people, but for the most part, I don't think that we generally deserve such labels.

Princess, I had no intention of labeling fast food employees as incometent. I don't experience fast food very often since I retired. When I was working I used a drive-thru about 4 or 5 times per month and my orders were correct about 99% of the time if I did not request anything different. I suspected that the pickle delete problem was as you pointed out, a communication breakdown between the cashier and the preparer. Many years ago I just stopped making this request. I could pick them off or just eat them. No big deal. My attempt at humor was that I still received the pickles at Burger King when their advertizing slogan was "have it your way".

~~~
Big smileI'll always treat the fast-food workers with respect as long as I can see the kitchen and am *not* eating in a Canadian fast-food joint. A few of our own pups worked fast-food while in college, or when lounging around believing we would support them (which was incredibly stupid - and they're only a percentage white!).
In other countries and certain communities in the U.S. where very few last names exist, I have run into really bad fast-food and fast-food service. Yea, I have done things that have brought the police (threw a burger back across the counter, took the top off of a baaad milkshake and turned it over (really fast) onto the counter), but the police always ended up agreeing with me and wanted to play, tooWink.
More power to you.  I worked at Hardee's for exactly 4 days before I quit (most of my co-workers were druggees, an asst. manager ran a phantom payroll on me, and the franchise owner was so anal that he had the managers inventory the hamburger patties (and weigh opened bags of fries!) every few hours.)  Not for me.  I'd rather steal aluminum cans out of recycling bins before working fast food again....
I have no idea why McDonald's is so racist against the black people.
They do all these ads showing black people and it's like McDonald's is saying, "You're black and you can't afford anything except the dollar menu because you don't make money."
No idea how they get away with the racism.
I had lots of problems at fast food restaurants.
the other night the cashier took 2 mins to count 40 cents change for me. he kept staring at his hand, then the register, then his hand, then the register, then his hand, then the register. Then he gave me my soda and didn't even put the straw in the bag.
As I drove away I thought, "No wonder he works in fast food." LOL
One more product of our public "school" (not bashing the teachers) system. If the register was functioning it would have showed him the correct change. Maybe it was down. About 20 years ago I was making a $1.68 purchase at a local dimestore. When I handed the teenage cashier $2 she pulled out a calculator. I asked what was the problem? She replied that the computer cash register was not working. I informed her that the change was $.32. She then asked "are you sure"? I replied "yes". She then asked "how did you do that"? I replied "When I attended public school they were still actually teaching us something".
I make requests at Whataburger all the time and get them right, they seem to be pretty good about this.
As for McDonalds, I go there when I want something breakfast related, really really quickly. Anytime I'm not in an extreme hurry(and don't want to cook myself or go to a sitdown restaurant) I go to Whataburger.
Ah yes Whataburger. I had those a couple of times when visiting Texas. Also In-N-Out burger in California. In the late 1960's to early 1970's we had a couple of independent drive in's and most A&W's that had good food and young waitresses in short skirts on rollerskates serving at your car window. How Anti-PC. There were no young waiters in short skirts on rollerskates. Sorry. Things were much different then.
Fair enough.
I apologize if I overreacted. I believe that you weren't trying to insult anyone. I just have a tendency to defend what I do to make a living right now, even when it's not necessary, because while a lot of people don't mean any offense, there are still people who really do think fast food employees are somehow beneath them and so I react to it a little sensitively.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.
Yeah, this is really a bit of a stretch now.
Frankly, as a white McDonald's employee, I'm pretty offended by the comments in this thread about McDonald's employees. I'm working on my education. Sorry that what I'm doing to get by isn't glamorous enough for you guys.
HEY! I was a white McDonald's employee and yes, it did put me through 2-1/2 years of college! It may not have been a glamorous job, but it was a lot of fun. Mostly everyone was the same age, and I made a lot of friends and some fleeting romances! 1978-1981 were my Golden Arches days. Ha - now I'm looking at my golden years! (soon enough, anyway!)
Exactly.
It's not my dream career or anything, but I'm making the most of it. I've met a lot of really nice people working there and I think it's actually helped improve my people skills, if anything.
More power to you.  I worked at Hardee's for exactly 4 days before I quit (most of my co-workers were druggees, an asst. manager ran a phantom payroll on me, and the franchise owner was so anal that he had the managers inventory the hamburger patties (and weigh opened bags of fries!) every few hours.)  Not for me.  I'd rather steal aluminum cans out of recycling bins before working fast food again....
Thanks.
I can understand why you quit so soon, and I too have worked at a place (not fast food, though - Toys 'R' Us, to be exact) where I didn't even last for two weeks. I actually got fired, but I was already about to quit after the first day.
I worked with a lot of unfriendly people and they took the job way too seriously, especially for a position they didn't even train me at. One thing I've never heard coming from any previous employers was that I was bad at my job, except for at Toys 'R' Us.
And I can understand why some people wouldn't enjoy the work too. Working there for the last two years, I've honestly gotten used to just about everything but when I began working there, I used to hate coming to work. Of course, working with someone who bullied me at the time didn't help matters, but I honestly used to hate flipping burgers and making sandwiches. I didn't really have a choice but work there or be unemployed again and financially depend on my parents for everything, so I just forced myself to deal with it. It required a lot of patience on my part not to quit while I was still relatively new to which a lot of people would have just said "screw it" and quit. Tongue
I'm black, and this commercial tells me two things:
1. We're all douches who put ourselves on pedestals.
2. We can't afford anything else but McDick's and Popeye's Fried Chicken.
Handshake Good job, McDick's. As if we didn't have enough issues.
And don't forget how you jump out of prissy white folks cars to avoid having to share an appetizer (Golden Corral).
ugh, how sad. 20 years ago i was in school and i can freaking make change. what baffles me is if your total is something odd like your aforementioned $1.68. i hand them, say, $5.13 (or maybe 18 if i have a nickel) so i won't get back a buttload of change. they'll look at me weird and and start to give me my change back and say "but it's only $1.68" and then i have to find the most non-condescending way possible to tell them to just punch it in and see what the register tells you. sometimes they act like i did a magic trick when it says i get back a quarter, 50¢, whatever, rather than a bunch of nickels, dimes, and pennies.
jesus christ i'm only 28, so when someone around my age is acting that brain-dead it's so depressing. it shouldn't surprise me though, when i took chemistry in high school there were kids who couldn't convert liters to...milliliters. not even getting into the whole metric to imperial conversions, just metric conversions confused them. good lord.
as for this mcdonald's ad, i've not seen it on tv but i hate their ads in general. unless it's a mccafé ad i think they all seem to have a little bit of racism somewhere deep down. some are more blatant than others of course, but it's only a matter of time before this becomes a reality...
I've previously told the story of the Taco Bell employee who had to count on her fingers to figure my change (she had an electronic register that told her he amount, if she could only read it). I bought a burrito for 99 cents and gave her a dollar. She counted o her fingers over and over before I told her "one of those copper-brown things will do..."
Yesterday was almost as bad.
Went into a Mighty Taco establishment and got a $1.49 BBQ burrito (which was not what I asked for, but it cost more and I liked it better, so I kept it). Somehow, the clerk rang up $1.33, even though they have little buttons with pictures on them, these days - kind of like 'Play School' cash registers. I gave the girl $2, she hands me back 65 cents and says, "I owe you two cents".
"o.k....so, what are you going to do about it?" was my response.
She got totally discombobulated walked back towards the kitchen, turned around and came back to the register and gave me a dollar.
"There you go, Sir".
It really doesn't matter what color one is or where they are from - so many of today's kids appear to be direct results of inbreeding failures.
WHAAAAT?  Confused
On the flipside, when I delivered pizzas I always calculated the change in my head right on the spot in front of the customer.  I don't know how many times it went like:
Customer: "How much is it?"
Me: "13.63"
Customer: *hands me a $20*
Me: "Okay, 6.37 will be your change."
Customer: "Wow that was quick math!  Give me back .. ummmmmmm just keep 2 for yourself and whatever the loose change was, and give me back the rest."
It's sad when being able to do simple addition and subtraction without a calculator wows people.
I'm always surprised at people who need to use a calculator or a chart to figure out the tip.  If the bill is $38.45 and you want to give a 15% tip, divide it by 10 and add 1/2.  That'd be $3.84 plus approx $1.90.  Make that $4 (10%) and $2 (1/2 of that).  Tip will be $6.  Pretty easy.
Pa - Play Skool cash register! LMAO!
Ha! Speaking of McDonald's (which is how this thread started) back in my days working there we had those big clunky registers and we had to figure out the tax in our heads. (it was 5% so that ws easy). Big Macs were 99cents back then. If someone ordered 3, I would punch in $2.97 instead of .99, .99, .99. It ALWAYS floored people "HEY HEY HEY - WHAT'S $2.97??? YOU MADE A MISTAKE!"
The way I've learned it (my mother's mother taught her this way, but apparently it's 'incorrect'.) is to just multiply. So to get 15% you'd multiple 38.45 by .15
Well, yeah...but that might require an actual calculator.
ConfusedYou two are both wimps.
Use 'Men's Math' when it comes to the cute waitress' tip - it's really simple!
$38.45x.15=($38.45x.1+SUM(($38.45x.1)/2)+the number of 'YES' answers to the below questions:
  • Did she bring you a 'beer on the house'?
  • Did she smile and give you her phone number?
  • Did she give ya a 'lap dance' there at Denny's?
Final Calculations:
  • '1 yes'= add 5% for this tip,
  • '2 yes'=sounds like an affair is in oder, give her a 50% tip and make sure ya get those 'Cialis Bathtubs' ready...and remember that there 'latex baloon'.
  • '3 yes' = You are in West Virginia and you're a member of the Hatfield family. Tell your sister to quit it and go home before her husband (your daddy) finds out what's she doing before dinnertime, dagnabit!.
(old ladies and male or gay waiters? Leave 'em $3 and don't make eye contact when you bolt)
Wink...and YEA - I'm joking. You should *always* give the old ladies at leasr 20 percent, doncha know..
Yeah, McDonalds has been pandering to minorities for years now. It's getting old. I miss Ronald McDonald.
vast majority of fast food employees seem to be a bit on the slow side.  I don't eat fast food very often but when I do my orders usually get screwed up.  It's ridiculous.
Called up once when my whole order got screwed up at Taco Bell and the manager had the nerve to say "Mistakes happen".  Yeah really?  I didn't pay $6 for "mistakes".  I paid $6 for my order to be correct.
