I am a little disappointed this has not been posted yet. With all the Geico haters. Who really needs to contact their ins. company while they travel. Somebody want to help me out with this selfish need to see the pig go down in a flaming inferno of jet fuel?

You know what I really hate about this ad? The fact that the stewardess tells the pig to "power down" the Android phone or whatever he's using. No one EVER says "power down", they tell people to turn their phone or whatever off. I hate how commercials use words and phrases that no one uses in real life. "Wireless phone" is another one that bugs me, I've never once heard someone call a cell phone that. It's also inaccurate, unless you never plan to charge your phone, and even then I'm sure that there's at least 1 wire somewhere in a cell phone.

This commercial isn't so bad, considering it's not on all that much where I am (actually, haven't even seen it on the actual television yet).

The worst thing for me is the veiled reference to Words with Friends, as if nobody used phones anymore to you know, make ACTUAL CALLS?!!

Seems like only yesterday that we were all used to seeing lil'Maxi-Pig strapped in the child's seat and acting up in the back of the unlucky school car-pool mother.
Actually, Maxwell sure has grown up in a hurry, doncha know - he's recognizing 'culturally-incorrect' phrases and selling Geico phone apps, these days.
I'd wonder "...what's NEXT for Maxwell?...", but I think I already know...

I thought that using a cellular telephone (or a Palm Pilot, or a Blackberry, or an Android, etc.) on an airplane was a rather severe no-no. ShockedAngryShocked

True, the stewardess does tell him to turn the fukker off, but it's the principle of the whole thing...encouraging the consumer to use a mobile computing device on an airplane is a very bad idea. Ouch

Agreed whenever I am on a plane I here over the PA system "Please turn off all cell phones and electronic devices" It's not a hard rule to obey so why is the pig being an a**h*le about it?

I believe most modern phones do come with a 'airplane' mode, which tries to shut down any elements that would cause trouble for the plane's mechanisms. I'm not sure how well it works, and if the phone would have to be shut down or not.

So it's probably a misunderstanding on either side: Maxwell's for thinking being in airplane mode is enough to allow him to keep using it, or the stewardesses for not asking if it was in airplane mode or not.

Either way, they all come across as arses. The stewardesses have this horrendously snarkly acidic tone to their voices, and if someone talked to me like that, I'd probably respond in like. I agree it's not that hard to turn a phone off

"Airplane Mode" disables the cellular network and mobile data connections. However, there is quite a bit of debate as to whether they can actually interfere with flight instruments (see http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/mythbusters-database/cell-phones-interfere-plane-instruments.htm).

The guys from Mythbusters tried to mess with all sorts of common flight instruments using 3 different kinds of cell phones (GSM, CDMA, and those old gigantic phones) and the phones didn't have any effect on the equipment at all. They still advised not to do it though, for one it's illegal, and for two there's a million cell phones and who knows how many different kinds of flight gear out there.

I think the "no cell phones on the plane" rule is allegedly about safety, but really because the rest of us don't want to be trapped in a tiny seat on a metal tube next to Bob Bobson the Really Important Businessman or Becky the Babbler while they yammer the whole flight. It also probably keeps people from paying attention to the seat belt and safety exits demonstration.

As for the commercial, it's probably my favorite of the Maxwell series, especially because of the look he exchanges with the man at the end. But it's still annoying because Shut Up Geico.

I hate the fact that he has to go out of his way to go "oh no no I'm totally using my Geico app here let me show you what it can do"....because that totally happens in real life. Geico, let the damn pig die already!

Also so you have to pay the airline to use their phones if you want to make a call. I've never used one (or even been on a plane at all), but I've heard it's expensive as all hell.

I'm actually more irritated by the stewardesses' condescending tone, but now that you mention it, Maxwell's a bit of a jerk for not turning off his phone, when anyone who's ever ridden a plane knows the rules.

OK - follow me about Geico commercial

Background:  Alec Baldwin's EX tape recorded him going off on his daughter, he called her a Piggy.
Also background:  Alec Baldwin in feud with airline starting with him refusing to quit playing "friends with words" on his iPhone.

In commercial, stewardess asked pig to quit playing with his "little word thing-e"
Ending with idiom about she will believe that "when pigs can fly" and said that to a pig that was flying only not with wings but in an airplane.

So I was wondering what else I missed.

You missed the days when flying on commercial airlines was a pleasant experience. Passengers dressed to at least business casual and flight attendants treated all passengers like royalty. My first commercial flight was in 1975. The food was good and soft drinks + snacks were unlimited. Flying nowdays you are first treated like a criminal by TSA then treated like cattle on the airplane. The rude condescending treatment of the pig is now normal for flight attendants. Although if I were a flight attendent and the pig was trying to sell me GIECO I would probably have them removed from the aircraft.

What he doing paying his Geico Insurance bill online?

Is he aging in pig years, which would mean he's now 30?Confused
