The concept was great. “Get a bunch of locals together and go racing. Dodge the cops the best you can and the winner gets a few bucks.” We did this in Portland, WAY out on the East side. Of course it was done at night on a narrow lonely road and the cops only showed up when we ran too late at night and a local pitched a bitch. Then everyone would get in their cars (THE ONES THEY RACED) and go home.

Now these “locals” have invested hundreds of thousands in cars, (they can’t drive on the street) tools, shops, trailers, etc. And no one seems to have a real job. It must be real nice to be real rich. Oh they have 1 old Chevy pickup they show on the streets now and then. And they show it racing now and then. Please say the words “mindless effect.”  But the driver does wear a kind-of cowboy hate so I guess it must be true. I wonder if his pretty-boy partner has ever twisted a wrench in his life?

To start a race they use a guy with a flash-lite. Now this could be a bit real and a bit dangerous. Things do explode and do damage. An acquaintance once lost a foot to a clutch gone bad. But they did have a well-endowed lady in a bikini as a starter. I guess the producers wanted to reduce their insurance.

In the starting area and the pits flood lights ABOUND! But the rest of the strip is totally black. No background lights. No stars. No McDonalds. Who can believe this?

They do have the occasional shoving match which is complete with shouts and screams and many “extras”

The finish line is just a flashlight lying on a road. This could be in Lower Brule, SD. (never go there.)  The results are radioed in. Radioed by WHO ???  We never get to see these important people. They could be drinking coffee in a Pizza-Hut someplace and just flipping a coin to see who wins.

“Street Outlaws?”  I never see a line on the “street” or any kind of road sign. “Outlaws?” Ya Right. The nun teaching my 7th. grade was more of an outlaw.

All in all I think it’s a bunch of horse apples.

Street racing is a bad thing.

There was this Spanish guy named Miguel (transplanted New Yorican) I worked with for a few years back in the 90's. He had a teenage son who, a couple of years after I left that company and began substitute teaching part time, was a student at a high school I worked at. I subbed for a couple of his teachers on a few occasions.

He also worked as a bagger at the grocery store I shopped at. I used to see him there all the time while shopping and I'd chat with him, ask him how his dad was doing, etc, etc. He was out of high school by then and going to a local vo-tech school to learn auto body painting and repair.

Nice kid.

One day I was watching the local news and they reported a story about two young guys who were employees at a local car dealership service dept, who had gone out to lunch together, apparently in separate cars, because on their way back to work, they decided to have themselves a little street race. During the race, one of them lost control of his car somehow, spun out and careened into a concrete light pole.

Dead at the scene.

Then, as the video showed them leading the other racer away in handcuffs, under arrest for vehicular manslaughter, they said his name.

Of course it was my friend's 20 year old kid.

Don't know what became of him, but I suspect it screwed up his life for some time.

Street racing is a bad thing.
Great news guys.... With the Air Hawk, flat balls are no longer a problem!!!

I remember hearing that critics were bashing the hell out of Fast Five movies saying that these street racing movies glorifying the very dangerous Street racing could start to entice impressionable movie goers to be start street racing in real life. Paul Walker's sudden real life death by dying in a joyride during a break during filming should be an alarming deterrent to not go into street racing in real life.
My name is Donathan, pronounced the same way you pronounce Jonathan, except with a D. :D $608 for her brother's scooter. Fair is fair my ass. Being tough on Public Access TV is priceless.

This post was about a TV show and its directors and producers. Not about losses. But thanks for the comments. I’ll tell my son Bobby when I see him again.
