Sucks, doesn't it?  I hate looking at on-line news articles anymore.  All the ads and FacebookInstagramTwitter icons that have to load, and then when I can finally scroll down, I'm greeted with photo galleries, links to barely-related articles right in the middle of the article I'm reading, the inevitable (and totally unnecessary) video, and then a suggestion to click onto tawdry celeb-related articles from other publications.  Total pain in the ass.

I was about to start a thread, when I saw this one.

A year or so ago, I subscribed to the Kim Kommando computer related email list. My God!!! but there are a hell of a lot of ads!!! She puts in just one or two of her own, then has auto servers from several sources which have become a sewer of internet ads:   Taboola,   PowerInBox, GoggleAds, et cetera...

About half of the feed windows these days are a medical quackery scam about dieting by mixing apple cider vinegar and baking soda and drinking it! Little three second clips that loop in jerk-motion video and are impossible to stop, avoid, or ignore. I am right on the ragged edge of unsubscribing.

I know that ads pay the freight, but damn! Enough is too much!

Sucks, but those ads are how they're able to generate revenue and keep access to the site free.

Without them, you'd have to purchase a separate subscription to every news site on the internet.

I thought you Republican types understood and supported all that free market, capitalism stuff.

Of course I understand all that.  It's still a pain in the ass.  And it often stops me from going to those sites.  That's something they need to understand (and address).  That's the free market.

Addressing it simply means doing the same thing they do with apps for touch screen devices... giving you the option of going ad free, which would of course mean charging you money for that choice.

And since we both know you'd never go for that, you're just gonna have to either deal with the ads or not visit those sites.

If you want free, you get ads. If you want no ads, you pay.

Like those bumper stickers you used to see on custom vans in the 70's...

"Gas, grass or ass. Nobody rides for free".

That's the free market.

Ads are one thing, but the autoplay is totally obnoxious!  Shoving something down one's throat doesn't really make one want it, does it?

Every time I see the title to this thread, I think it says "Online autopsy ads".

And then I'm like all "whaaa.....?????"

You wanna know what really gets my goat about these insistent autoplay ads?! It's that they insist on playing them even when your Internet usage is metered! It's one thing if you have truly unlimited usage, but when your usage is metered and they still insist on autoplay ads, that's something else entirely!

I really hate coming across those types of ads whenever I use computers that don't have AdBlock Plus on their browsers, especially ones you can't skip.
