Hi my name is Jana. I was fortunate to live in Orlando during the first year Shaquille came to the Magic. I was a nurse working 2 jobs as a single mom with 5 children and 1 on the way! What was I Thinking?lol Shaquille used the same common gas station to get gas as we did. We would see him probably a few times a week. My children like most kids would be asking for ices!๐ I never had enough money an I would have my children dig in the car, an ashtray to find change.๐ชShaq watched this happen a couple of times an one day I went to check out for gas and the clerk said,"let your kids get ices" I ask why and he stated,"because Shaq said so"๐. I will always remember this and he did it so many times I can't count๐ His heart is bigger than his feet, and he touched all of souls in such an embracing manner that to this day my children talk about his huge heart and his humble act. We are in love with him๐ You can't judge a book by its cover, an if you judge Shaquille by certain controversies always remember this act of love and giving when he was only 19/20 years old๐ We love you forever๐๐๐๐ Jana

Apparently, somebody who knows Shaq or knows somebody who knows him or is somehow connected with his PR firm or something along those lines, Googled him & saw an earlier thread in which we were less than worshipping of his Shaqness, so this person signed up here just to tell us how wonderful Shaq supposedly is.
I'm sure he does nice things for people here & there. If you or I had the kind of money he has, we'd be buying strangers' kids ice cream too. The cost of a couple of convenience store treats is so miniscule compared to his wealth, it probably can't even be expressed numerically as a percentage. Like 1/100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000th of 1% |

Been looking at this post all day.
A kind gesture by one for another, no matter the case much less either names or capabilities of the involved, can be anything but commended.
So, thanks for the post - 'humanity in action' is wondeful to read about, it is what *I* believe we must grade ourselves on. We need more of these stories (only if true), every day.

What we all need is Shaq's money.
Then we could all buy ice cream for kiddies at gas stations. |

Almost got fooled by this one, but then I saw this was the user's first post, and the first thing that comes out of her mouth is about a random celebrity. REALLY?
Still, good for him if the story is true. |

^ Mad, you neglected to include the "lol" after that portion of her statement. That was my favorite part---'cuz "single mom with 5 children and 1 on the way" is just so damned whimsical.

Hmmm...what are we thinking? What are we saying, here?
If the thread originator is honest, well, seems pertinent to skip beyond all the slush of the story and get to the point - a nice, human gesture. Always a good thing, no matter who, no matter where. Thank You for 'sharing'...now...what are you really hoping to achieve?
Otherwise, if we have encountered yet another attention-seeking opportunist, well, kudos! Attention received, but, after that, suggest your fingers find other pockets. Also, if this IS you, here's hoping you really do not have any children - you do not deserve them.

Oh, come on! He's noticed you digging for money for the little children's ice cream several times and he is so generous he pays for it once?!!! Maybe ten bucks? He is so f*cking rich he should have peeled off a Ben Franklin and given it to you. I've seen stories where celebrities are super generous to people for no reason!
And Madawee, sewing her own knees together was "priceless"

Some pro athletes are unfathomably greedy. There was some douchebag basketball player who seriously gave out Ramen Noodles to trick-or-treaters on Halloween because of the NBA lockout a couple years ago, as if he was seriously put in that much poverty. Not only was that greedy and self serving, but condescending as well.
Though I must admit, Shaq is a straight shooter when it comes to money loss: |

^^ Yep And after the reporter reminded him that it was a live feed, he looked right into the camera and said he didn't give a sh.
The league may or may not have been losing money, but rest assured it did get a little richer courtesy of fines on Shaq for that interview. |
