My apologies: Not sure how to post an ISpot Video. Anyway like every commercial break there's this and other sh*t adds for Macy's Memorial Day Sale. Why do I hate this (these) commercials so much? Because the song is a lim wristed bad cover of an already dreadful one hit wonder from 1970. "In The Summertime" by a jug skiffle bad teeth British band named Mungo Jerry. I even hate that name. One of the worst songs from my youth. These commercials have been on every few minutes like 10 times per hour that they merit a nomination for my worst commercials of 2016. Of course my #1 bottom feeder champ or chump is the commercial for U of diploma mill Phoenix with that hipster vocal fry chick croaking out If I Only Had A Brain.

In Mungo's defense, this was their debut single, and it hit #1 on charts the world over.
Also, at least it has real musical instruments!  Especially if you consider a milk jug a musical instrument!
Do you prefer the Shaggy & Rayvon version better?  (It's terrible.)

I couldn't get the OP's link to work, I must have found it but I posted it elsewhere.

I'm sure there's more to the song than what's sampled here. I want to hear the whole song before I judge it!
One good thing about TV-you could always turn it off

It's pretty close, but not the original (unless there's another version by Mungo Jerry).  I wonder why they didn't just pay for the rights to the original.  Couldn't cost too much.  Mungo might need the bucks by now.  Probably can't live off a one-hit wonder 45 years later.

edit:  Or maybe he can.  I see they're still around.

I got a little off track here...This is the commercial Zippyjet posted.
NOT the Mungo Jerry, 'In The Summertime' commercial I have been seeing.

For the youngsters, who have never heard of Mungo Jerry...the classic song.

Another great old summer song?

^  OK.  I don't recognize the one zippy posted about at all.  Maybe some of the youngsters here (under 50) know it.

That's OK.  Millenials probably won't even recognize this as "music", since it...

- Features actual musicians
- Playing real instruments
- Except drums (there aren't any)
- And no AutoTune's vocals
- Oh, and the song fades out, as opposed to just abruptly ending

That said, if I'm not mistaken, that's a Pianet-N piano. (?)
Oiled leather on steel reeds.  Interesting sound.
Never got to play one...

I have no clue who Mungo Jerry is/was but I have been an Eric Burdon addict since I purchased "The Best of the Animals" LP in 1966.

Comparing Mungo Jerry to Eric Burden even these two songs is like comparing a Porsche to a Yugo. Sure, Mungo Jerry used just jugs but sh*t is still sh*t musically at least in my book. That period around 1970 seemed to be fertile with one hit wonders some good others like Mungo suckass. BTW really like that Eric Burden song.

They were pretty big in England, with many top 40 hits and several at the top of the charts.  T. Rex was similar.  Huuuge in England; one-hit wonders here.

Yeah. Not terribly interested in banging a gong but getting it on was a priority at the time.Wink As far as one hit wonders I still occasionally enjoy Tommy Two Tone "867-5309". It's one of the limited things I can play on guitar.

I always thought Mungo Jerry sounded like a poor mans T Rex--and that skiffle
sound was novelty fresh back in the early 70s-now? sounds QUAINT
and we all know how ads love QUAINT these days.... 'only had a BRAIN' girl, anyone?
...YUMMY Broccolini!!....

I like T Rex, but their early years in the 60s as an acoustic band weren't my favorite.

Now, MSC Cruises is using some version of the song.  Unfortunately, they changed "have a drink, have a drive" to "have a drink, relax".

I think they shoulda done it the way Mungo had intended.  But nooooo!  MADD would've had a hissyfit.
