Am I the only one who hates these ads for Kraft Singles American Cheese? I hate the patriotic imagery of it....like it's the American thing to do to eat & feed kids craptastic rubbery processed "cheese".

Good lord yes. I hadn't seen those ads for a while and thought too many people had complained, but...they're BACK! I'm not sure which ones I hate more, these or the suddenly-patriotic Denny's commercials. Both suck. I prefer Cabot's or Sargento cheese over Kraft any day.

American cheese should be a source of national shame, not pride. Just because it's made here doesn't mean it's good. I don't want to see a commercial for a meth lab with bruce springsteen playing in the background..

Search as I may, I cannot find anything lending credibility to this being our "National" cheese. In fact, the National Cheese Institute deems it "processed" (not pure) cheese.
The only p[lus is the low melting point, which is good for grilled cheese sammiches, but if you're going processed, use Velveta,

I love Velveeta. Wonder Bread, mayo, mustard, and thick slices of Velveeta. Many a lunch as a kid 50 years ago, rare treat now.

I've gotten two different kinds of "American cheese" from supermarket deli counters. One is the rubbery stuff like the Kraft Singles; the other is more like regular cheese. That one has little holes in it, breaks rather than bends, and tastes really good. I dunno---it might be the difference between "processed cheese" and "processed cheese food".

American cheese is thoroughly disgusting, it tastes like it has sugar in it. My Mom used to buy the kind in these ads all the time The patriotism in these ads puzzles me.

I'll have to look at the Kraft Singles label next time I'm in the grocery store. Wouldn't surprise me if it said "Made in China"....

Try the white American cheese from a deli counter. The stuff that the deli person slices from a block is much different than that Kraft "individually wrapped" stuff. It's one of my favorite cheeses, whereas that Kraft stuff is pretty crappy to me.

Okay, I always assumed the stuff in the deli case was the same thing. I wondered how they could possibly slice something that soft, but never bothered to figure it out for myself. So today when I stopped at Kroger on my way home I asked to sample it. Not bad at all. Not as good as the cheeses I usually buy (cheddar, swiss, muenster, colby and provolone) but definitely something I could put on a sandwich.

I actually like Kraft Singles, more than the deli American Slices. I guess it's just the nostalgic memory of being a kid and eating them.
I just hate the commercials for the fact that my grilled cheese sandwiches, even with Kraft Singles have never been as ooey and gooey as the ones in the commercial. |

Yeah, slicing that stuff would be near-impossible.
Per Wikipedia, "The individually wrapped cheese slices are typically the least like natural cheese. These “slices” are actually individually poured onto each plastic wrapper and then set to emulsify."

If you look closely on the package, Kraft makes both sliced & packaged "cheese" & "cheese food product".
The "cheese" is actual real cheese made with milk, whereas the other stuff is made with oil.
The real cheese is not individually wrapped. It's just sliced.

I've always hated that wrapped Kraft cheese, I don't like the texture or taste of it...yuck! I do like the American cheese sliced up at the deli counter though. Usually, Land O Lakes deli cheese.
