Does anyone who programmed the Commercials for the Kentucky Derby (Who's Coverage started at about 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time) Realise that CHILDREN WERE WATCHING THIS? It seemed like every other Commercial Break had an Ad for a Prescription Drug that dealt either with Sex Or Bodily Functions! I know I'm Ranting, BUT THESE ADVERTISMENTS SHOULD NOT BE AIRED DURING THE DAYTIME WHEN CHILDREN ARE BOUND TO BE WATCHING!!!! |

I'm glad J.R. asked that question, because I am always curious as to how people decide which words need initial caps.

Back to the Kentucky Derby. I am appalled to see that yet another horse was injured and put down at the race yesterday! First Barboro, then last year Mending fences and yesterday it was Eight Belles! I think they need to address the safety of race horses, something is very wrong!

Oh, and by the way, I don't give a rat's butt about a person's grammar and spelling, I would be dead without my spell check, people are strong in different areas. It's the idea that counts. I would feel badly if folks were put off posting because they have difficulties in these areas.

^^ Seconded! I'm surprised nobody has commented on my rant, the airing of quasi-pornographic television commercials at times when children are watching!
BTW congratulations for the winners, Stewart (20), Mears (5), and Biffle (16) for winning the Race!

Regulus, I don't like the "bodily function" ads either. Small children are exposed to things they don't need to know right now, and the ads are in bad taste for everybody else.

I'm not sure what they can do. It happens, just like in football, baseball, track. One bad plant of the foot and.....
Too bad no one put M. Vick down when he came up lame.

I didn't.
It's sad what they're doing to the horses. (the weak breeding and the drugs, etc.) |

I used to watch it, I adore horses! As racing has become more brutal I no longer watch. I have done some research on a new surface called "poly track", it makes tracks much safer for horses to run on, it could save lives. Sadly, it is too late foe Barbaro, Mending fences and Eight Belles.

I felt so bad about Eight Belles. It's true that accidents happen in all sports. The thing is, in most other sports, it's HUMANS doing what they have chosen to do. In horse racing, the horses have no choice. And yeah, a LOT of people who aren't gambling do watch this "crap."

BigM..there are horse races happening at all times of the day and all over the world and this type of thing is a "freak" accident. Look at the physical body of a horse: huge body and spindly legs. Sometimes these legs just snap and give out. It's unpredictable, and very sad. I am of the opinion that especially in the Derby, the horses are loved cared for/ If a rider knows his animal is lame at the get go the horse won't win anyway. So what would be the point of running him/her? This unfortunate accident could happen at any time. If I were a "PETA" type I'd push for getting rid of animal abuse that takes place in "cultural" settings. Like bullfights and dog fighting. I do not consider horse races to be automatic "red flags" for something untoward happening. And I am not saying you see it that way, either. I am just sayin' the PETA people were already ALL OVER this situation and they need to chill and get the facts before taking on the horse racing industry.

And your self appointed hall monitor state has gotten old a long time ago. Who died and made you the boss? People come here to express their opinions about stuff and there you go wagging your finger at them. This was partly the reason why I stopped coming because I couldn't take this attitude of yours. Everyone here has the right to say what they want (unless it's hurtful and/or offensive to anyone) but you seem to be squashing that right. Oh, boo freaking hoo, someone said something that you don't like. Tough sh*t! Deal with it, get over yourself and take your own advice about that aforementioned chill pill! I'm sorry if my saying this will upset people but come on, this needed to be said; I held my tongue long enough, although, I sort of lashed out in the Wendy's rant (if you missed it, look here ) Now about the Kentucky Derby - I've watched it every year with my family since I was a little girl but the past few years I've missed it (I had to work this year and 2006; last year I missed it because I was sick). I didn't find out about what happened until I got home. Poor Eight Belles...it's so sad. |

Seriously I can't believe some people on here are so dense that they can't get humor. Have you not watched any of George Carlin's shows or listened to one ICP song? Believe it or not, not everybody's sense of humor is that "Ha Ha you said poop" stuff on Family Guy or "Hur hur George W. Bush is a dumbass" like on Steve Colbert. Think for a minute, if I even remotely came close to acting out half the crap I say I would be typing this on some nurse's comp at the state mental home or in the library in a supermax security prison somewhere.
