Great, and when you get hit by a car I guess it’s all good because you’re country. I don’t even know what these ads are for. Each one is from the “perspective” of a different, ah, thing... shoes, hands, a dog... I don’t even know what they’re about, except they’re about the country. The one with the dog has the leash comment, obviously, and she also says she’s not a pet, she’s a member of the family. Then she says, “I’ve never worn a leash, just like my master”. So your family member is your “master”? Make up your mind, mutt-mutt. And why would the guy ever be wearing a leash anyway? I don't get it.

I HATE the stupid ads for “1 less” cervical cancer shots. Someone is making money off of this, there are probably risks invovled and the risk of the cancer is probably being exaggerated and could be decreased in other ways like say with a good diet. These ads just bug me. “Tell someone, be one less, get your daughter the shot”. It’s about money, it’s not a public health ad like it pretends to be.

Okay, I've never seen the first ad you're talking about, and I have no idea what it has to do with the other ad, and in regards to that one, I'm not sure what your problem is. If you don't like the ad, that's one thing - but your statements/surmises about the HPV vaccine and the relation to cervical cancer are just . . . well, kind of ignorant. (Unfortunately the site I would turn to for all my information on this subject is offline until Monday, so bear with me here. But rest assured I check all my sources for accuracy and impartiality.) First off, I've had the vaccine, and I read through all the paperwork they gave me, and I can tell you that the risks associated with the vaccine itself are minimal - personally, I had no problem with it, and I HATE needles. But I asked for it, because I read up on this stuff, and it's that damn important. And a "good diet" won't do sh*t for that, I'm sorry. I'm going to let the American Social Health Association do the talking now, because they explain it better than I can:

Why are HPV vaccines important?

• Most sexually active adults (ages 15 to 49) will acquire HPV at some time in their lives and will never even know it. HPV usually has no symptoms and does not cause disease.
• Some types of HPV can infect a woman's cervix and cause the cells to change. Most of the time, HPV goes away on its own. When HPV is gone, the cervix cells go back to normal. But sometimes, HPV does not go away. Instead, it lingers (persists) and continues to change the cells on a woman's cervix. These cell changes can lead to cancer over time, if they are not treated. 1
• Cervical cancer is caused by "high-risk" types of genital human papillomavirus (HPV), a common sexually transmitted infection (6.2 million new cases each year). 2
• Cervical cancer is the 11th most common cancer among women in the US; an estimated 9,710 new cases will occur in 2006 and about 3,700 women will die. 3,4
• Widespread vaccination has the potential to reduce cervical cancer deaths around the world by as much as two-thirds.5
• HPV vaccines could reduce anxieties and health care costs associated with following up abnormal Pap and HPV tests, such as biopsies and invasive procedures.6

What HPV vaccines are available, and what's in the pipeline?

• Merck developed a 3-dose (0, 2 & 6 months) quadrivalent vaccine for men and women to be marketed under the name Gardasil(r). The vaccine is close to 100% efficacious for preventing persistent infection and clinical disease associated with HPV type 6 & 11 (subtypes associated with 90% of all genital warts) and types 16 &18 (subtypes associated with 70% of all cervical cancers, and many vulvar and vaginal cancers).7

(Bright red emphasis mine.) There's more on that site if you're interested, but that's a pretty good overview. I should also note that since it's located on the cervix, which is not particularly visible or accessible, cervical cancer is hard to detect, with very few symptoms, if any. And you may have recently heard on the news that 1 in 4 teenage girls has an STD - well, that includes HPV.

My point is, if you don't like an ad, that's one thing, that's why this forum is here. But as for uninformed medical statements . . . not so much.

The first time I ever ventured into the wilds of Oakland, California, I was shocked and dismayed by the packs of abandoned dogs roaming the streets.  They seemed to be everywhere...but hey, that's Oakland.  Gang Central, where animals of the canine sort don't differ that much from animals of the human sort.

Ok, I retract the “diet” thing, I had a bad feeling about that statement as I typed it. It’s just that there’s so much focus on drugs in this country and not real prevention. But ok, I was wrong about that comment.

I still say these ads are about money while they pretend to be all caring about womens’ health, and I am highly suspicious of the whole thing. And that song is bloody annoying.

One less ads really piss me off. Sure, no one wants cancer. And sure, it's a great idea and women should have it done.
