It's interesting that you only see the lower part of his face throughout the ad. Heaven forbid that we should make eye contact with him, like normal human interaction.

Given the oral fixation the commercial has, it seems like Cock God would be the more appropriate name for the kid.

As far as the second ad, I'm fairly disgusted by that as well. It really doesn't promote the ever-so-prevalent smarmy douchebaggery as much as the 'Hipster God' advertisement, but it definitely promotes the EXTREMELY prevalent idea that 'You Cannot Live Without Technology', this idea that if your phone's battery dies, you might as well shut down and do nothing.

This sort of sh*t is a plague on society. "Remind me to do this again." Are you f**king kidding me? Are you seriously trying to tell me that having a functional memory is no longer 'in-style'? USE YOUR DAMN BRAIN. You were given the ability to remember things for a REASON. Shouldn't the memory of a wonderful vacation/trip be enough to remind this woman to do it again sometime in the future? I mean, come on.

In my eyes, this commercial blatantly explains the idea behind all of this technology. It blatantly elaborates upon it, putting it all out there, right on the table. The idea is that, instead of being a functional human-being with a brain that actually works properly, you should be a braindead tech-reliant moron incapable of independence and hooked up to your iPhone like it's a f**king surrogate brain/life-support device.

We used to do so many things. We went to the Moon. Hell, by the time we have the technology required to travel to Mars, nobody will give a sh*t. They'll be too busy playing Angry Birds 5 on their iPhone 8 XYZ 5.8 Beta Version 2C.

So these companies pump out more useless, worthless technological gadgets. The hordes of consumers eat them up and stare into their screens like brain-dead zombies. The companies make money. Everybody wins. Humanity regresses a little more and we all live in a diseased society.

Found this gem on the Tosh.0 blog.

http://tosh.comedycentral.com/blog/2012/02/27/someone-did-us-a-favor-and-fixed-that-terrible-iphone-commercial/?xrs=synd_facebook

I think someone needs to remake ALL the terrible iPhone ads.
It's ok, I'm in marketing!

The phone was forced to say that. She wanted to say:

"you have to earn that name, you pathetic douchebag."

It'd be akin to me giving myself the username "Thor" in order to convince myself and others that I actually am the God of Thunder...when in reality, if some dragon was coming after me, I'd probably run.

I always figured the "God of Thunder" reference in your username had something to do with incredibly loud farts.

I know everyone is snarking on the speech synthesizer on the Iphone, but when I saw the ad I thought it was kind of cool to hear one of the Realspeak voices being used somewhere other than my screen reader. I think it's kind of funny that you guys think it's annoying. I think most everyone in the blind community rejoiced when they released these new voices. We used to get something that sounded exactly like Stephen Hawking *shudder*.

It's not the speech synthesizer per se that people don't like, it's the commercial itself & the annoying geeky people in it.

i think the commercial is dumb, but I laughed when I heard that voice. I agree whole-heartedly about why people don't like this ad, but I have to laugh at the ridiculousness of the Jaws voice saying, , "From now on I'll call you Rock God". Sorry, I guess it's a Jaws user thing.
This is your brain on commercials.

The ads seem to be trying too hard to be cool.

If I was to name myself after my farts, there'd have to be a God of Silent But Deadlys.  Or, on special days, a God of A Pot Of Cabbage That's Been Rotting On The Stove For A Week.

Some wimpy-ass kid decides he wants a guitar. So his iPhone tells him where to go buy one.... as if the location of the nearest Sam Ash music store were some big secret or something.

Apparently he's never played before, so once again, he turns to his iPhone to obtain the lyrics & chords to a particular song.... as if he couldn't have done the same thing on his PC, or purchased the sheet music when he was buying the guitar.

Then he has to ask it how to configure a Bm9 chord.... once again, something he could've learned either on his computer or from buying a book of guitar chords at the music store.

All this simple crap made to sound as if it couldn't have been done without his stupid iPhone.

But the worst thing about it is how, (seemingly) by the end of one day, all because of his iPhone, he has mastered the instument & is playing in a band.

Gee whiz..... the iPhone 4s totally eliminated the need for weeks & months of constant practicing for hours on end every day that it usually takes to even begin achieving proficiency on a musical instrument!!!!

How did we ever get along without you, iPhone?????? ShockedShockedShocked

So true.  It's exactly what I hate about AT&Ts "That's so X seconds ago" commercial.
Things are only good if your cravings are statisfied the instant they formulate in your brain.

As far as the Rock God thing goes.  Rock (which is actually short for Rock and Roll) is music plain and simple.  That's all.
It is NOT the essence of life.  So I am not impressed with your egomaniacal reference to yourself as Rock God

Should anyone seriously be flattered by a palm sized chemically energized hunk of plastic calling them Rock God?

Possibly. Along with clueless and smugly elitist. I would have loved to see them at the rodeo...being heckled.
