So, on November 23, at 7:16, this iconic show will be 50 years old. From 1963-1989 it ran, following seven incarnations of the Time Lord known as the Doctor and his companions, human and not-so-human across time and space.
In 2005 it was revived by the BBC, following the 9th Doctor and currently the 11th is still around (But will be bowing out come Christmas)
Oh yeah, and there was a movie in 1996, but...Fox was part of the production and the less said about it the better. 8 was a good Doctor and all, but unofficial media has been kinder to him than the film.
Anyway, my family is huge on this show, so we've been celebrated by rewatching a lot of the classic show.
The Tenth Planet with the first Doctor (William Hartnell) and the first appearance of the Cybermen. Also the first story with regeneration.
Spearhead From Space With the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee), the first appearance of the Autons/Nestene Consciousness, and the first story in colour.
Genesis of the Daleks with the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker), first appearance of Davros, creator of the Daleks, and one of the best Dalek stories there is.
The Black Orchid with the fifth Doctor (Peter Davison), the last "straight historical" of the show.
Started Earthshock (Again, fifth Doctor) to-night, and plan to watch a few more Pertwee era, some Romana stories, and six and seven...maybe the movie.
Come November, we'll be watching a select few of the new show, and series 5, series 6, and series 7 in their entirety.
Then, obviously, the 50th anniversary episode.
