I'm not sure which asthma medication this one is for, but I think it's Advair/
Anyway it's some silhouetted middle-aged woman joyfully singing the praises of her asthma meds, because she didn't know until now that asthma doesn't go away. Um, if asthma went away, then why would you even need medications for it?? If asthma went away, you could probably be vaccinated for it. Also, in the commercial it says not to take the medication if you already have your asthma under control with a different inhaler. 1. If you have your asthma under control already, why are you even seeking another medication? It's not like you can get high on inhalers. 2. Even if you could, your doctor wouldn't prescribe you another inhaler if the one you have already is doing its job. I hate medicine commercials! |

As said before, the side effects can be worse than the malady.

It's not for Advair -- it's a new one, but I can't remember the name. What gets me is about this commercial is when she starts talking about the possible side-effects -- that this medication can cause asthma-related death! I'd have to have some serious asthma, that the benefits of taking this stuff would outweigh the risks. |

Wow! You mean my mom has been suffering from asthma for the last fifty eight years because (gasp!) IT DOESN'T GO AWAY?!?!
No, I can't believe it's true, I just can't! |

As someone with severe athsma (I have 2 different inhalers plus a script for oral steroids for emergencies) I find this ad incredibly stupid and offensive. Anyone with athsma knows it doesn't go away and it can be deadly if you have an attack with no method of opening the airway back up. Net we'll see Wilford Brimey hawking athsma products...
"Did you know some people with athsma STILL don't know they need to keep a rescue inhaler on hand?"
No I didn't know. Thanks for opening my eyes Wilford

I also have asthma, although mine doesn't sound as severe as yours. My first attack occurred when I was four -- I can remember when I was taken to the ER, which seemed like such a scary experience & I was hospitalized for an entire week. Back in those days, they didn't have preventitive meds, just rescue inhalers. By the time I was around 13, we all thought my asthma had "gone away," but it didn't. When I was in my early 20s, the symptoms resurfaced. I was told that asthma can go into what seems like a remission phase, where you don't experience any symptoms & then all of a sudden the symptoms start up again. I'm currently on Advair, which is doing an effective job of keeping my asthma under control. I run & never have any problems. Anyone who has asthma needs to be using some sort of preventitive medication, even when he or she seems to be symptom free.
I'll agree that this is a pretty stupid commercial. Like I said in my first reply, what gets me most about this commercial is that they tell you taking this medication can actually kill you. I'd have to be having some pretty wickedly severe asthma in order to take that risk.
