I've never played that game and I don't get it. Why are you supposed to punch people when you see a VW Bug? Seems stupid to me.

It's bugs only! God damn it this is why I'm growing to hate VW more and more. I'm not punching someone every time I see a Jetta, even though I want to for other reasons. It takes the fun out of it.

I think it's because of the negative connotation of the word "bug" that they changed it.

My bro and I used to play this game...'cept it wasn't for Bugs in particular.  We'd pick a year and make and model of car, and the first one to spot one, hits the other.

No they often use the word bug in their ads still.
Well they were. Are they still making the new beetle?

I think they changed it just to include all their products.

Growing up it was "Slug Bug", and exclusive to Beetles ("Bugs"). I never slugged my little brother when I saw a Microbus. Well, okay I did- but not because I saw a Microbus.

Slug Bug never started out as a game thought up by VW, it has been ripped off for their own marketing purposes which makes me madder than an old lady who sees her husband's brand new bottle of Viagra on February 13th.

But I did like the Stevie-Tracey thing.

I can't imagine playing this game with current VWs (or almost any other modern sedan).  Cars these days look really generic to me.  I don't know if I could tell a Passat from a Prius.

Was "Punch Bug" to us as well. And yeah, sucks that they changed it to "Punch DUB," WTF does that even mean?! Absolutely nothing. Talk about super lame.

If parents are going to teach their kids about cars, teach them about REAL cars. Play a game like "spot the classics" or something like that (that's not a real game- just came up with it.) My dad told me to look out for license plates from different states- that kept ME busy!

It was "Punch Buggy" when I was growing up. LOL
And it only applied to Bugs, Beetles, and Super Beetles -- not Buses, Rabbits, Golfs, Jettas, TDIs, etc. Angry

A guy I worked with had a Jetta that was so unreliable that it should have been VW that was getting punched.
