Caught this last night.  Had some very funny moments and some great characters.

Two of the characters are a gay couple and in one scene, one of them said that the other knew how to speak French.

The other one looked at the camera, held his  thumb and index finger slightly apart and said,
 "Oom pah".

Cracked me up!!!

Been meaning to watch this one - read a lot about it; absolutely nothing bad. Generally like Ed O'Neil's work.

I was a little hesitant to watch it but caught two episodes when nothing else was on tv and have to say it's got potential. The jury's still out for me on that one with the mom from Everybody Loves Raymond and that weird kid who whispers to himself. It's like they're trying to be funny and they're right on the border but they're trying a little too hard. If they would relax just a bit they might have something.

the one with Patricia is "The Middle" which i feel is trying to ride on the coat tails of a Malcolm in the Middle-esque feel. Its really odd for me to watch her in anything else besides ELR.

As far as Modern Family, love it!

I'm not a fan at all of The Middle, but LOVE Modern Family. I subscribed to it on Hulu.com so I can watch it whenever I want. There was this episode early on where the dad tries to steal his son's bicycle to teach him a lesson, and the whole thing goes wrong a la I Love Lucy. It's really laugh out loud funny.

I haven't said this about a show in a LONG time but it almost seems like this show gets better with each episode:) My favorite character is the father who's trying to be cool and relate to his kids. He's so embarrassingly pitiful that you can't help but watch with your hands over your eyes. He's a train wreck all on his own:-D

I just watched two more episodes on Hulu.com. In the episode I just watched, there was this scene that literally made me spit my drink out because I was laughing! I can't think of another sitcom I've liked this much in ten years. It's really, really funny.

It's ok, but you should not cry it out an adopted child.
Or any child for that matter, but mostly a child that is adopted internationally needs to know she can trust her parents to take care of her more than she needs to learn to self soothe.

Which kids don't learn how to do until they are about 2 anyway.

I knew someone would say that. I watched an episode were skinny gay dude was like, we've got to teach our daughter to self sooth. And not skinny gay dude said, no, I don't want to.
I was with not skinny gay dude. You do NOT allow a baby to cry it out to self sooth especially if it's a child that was adopted internationally and probably was raised in an orphanage where they'd lay in their cribs crying and no one would pick them up.
They need to be picked up any time they cry because that is how they learn to trust and not being picked up when they need it can cause brain damage as well as attachment issues.

This is because I did research on adoption because I want to adopt one of these days. So that skinny dude was wrong for stopping his boyfriend from picking up that baby and if I was his boyfriend I'd pick him up and put him outside and pick up that poor baby anyway!

There is a young kid/teenager who, from what I understand, is an occasional character on that show, who is the younger brother of the daughter in law of a lady who works in the media center at one of the high schools I sub at.

She has known said teenage actor & his older sister (who is now her daughter-in-law) since they were both little kids. She used to give him cookies.

The lady is sort of my "work buddy" everytime I get an assignment at the media center at that school.

It's always a fun day that barely qualifies as "work".

I hate this show.   It relies so much on characters deceiving and insulting each other, and no one ever actually laughs in it. The faux-doc style is completely unfunny on TV (the Chris Guest movies use it to such great advantage because it's believable in a single film, but not an on-going series). This emperor has no clothes.
