This is one of those commercials that pretends there's a problem that doesn't really exist: that rental cars are BORING. Yeah, so what? 95% of car rentals are paid for by companies so employees who have been shipped out of town for some conference or training class can get to their conference or training class in comfort. Sorry the ABC company doesn't have the extra funds to rent you an "exciting" car, we spent that money on a nice hotel for you,  dumbass.

The commercial is one of those graphic-heavy with little photography, but a lot of "text messages" flying across the screen about how rental cars are "boring" and how you want to rent "THE" car instead of just "A" car. All accompanied by a rapid-fire urgent sound voice over how your life is not worth living if you have to rent a boring car!

Finally, the money shot: A BMW sedan driving along a ships' loading dock OOOOoooh so sexy!! Ouch The closing shot shows other vehicles, apparently all BMWs in the photo but they never mention the car brand explicitly. "THE CAR" could be a 5 year old Infiniti for all you know.

"You don't want A friend, you want THE friend."

No - I never hear anyone ever talk like that. "I'm really feeling lonely right now - I could use the(e) friend?" No, I don't think so.

I think the word you're looking for is "newbie", "novice" or "beginner".

An "amateur" is someone who is skilled at something, but who doesn't do it professionally (for a living).

So in that context, an "amateur" can put out a good advertisement.  The above example isn't one of them.

Very funny, but no, I chose my words carefully. I have no interest in how many years/months/minutes/etc. experience they have. The "product" they produced in this case is embarrassingly amateurish. As the OP said, this piece of crap is centered around a problem that doesn't exist.

The professional adtards are good at what they do, even if we hate their work.

There are agencies that rent out exotic cars, muscle cars, vintage cars, etc. But, based on the 5 examples shown at the end of the commercial, this isn't one of them. The only one that looks fun at all, is the blue convertible. The rest look like every other car and SUV out there.

Edit: I just looked online at their "fleet". There are a few muscle cars---Mustang, Challenger, Charger, Camaro---but the rest aren't anything I'd go out of my way to rent.

Oh, by the way, the last time I rented, I got a Challenger. And it was from Enterprise.
