Okay, so I've driven cars long enough to know that most of the time, you're not going to be stranded on the road unless you let a problem go long enough. Usually, you're going to get a check engine light long before any real trouble comes up. If you choose to ignore it and put a piece of tape over it so you don't see it anymore, then yeah, you're gonna end up like this person. Cars almost always give indication that something isn't right before it totally breaks down.

I often wonder about these "extended insurance" companies like car shield. In fact what is scary is when I get junk mail, I get something from something like CarShield but under a different name and on the back of the letter there's a "sample bill". I don't even know what the worst part of it is is because there are a ton of parts listed on there and when they were serviced and it includes things like a new transmission, a new engine, a new water pump, a new exhaust system. What is even worse is that all these supposed repairs take place over a year. If your car is breaking down that much, either you're driving a piece of crap and/or you're just really stupid and keeping a lemon. The total of this "bill" came up to over $10,000 in repairs. I can buy a nice used car for about that, maybe even less if you look hard enough! But the worst part of the whole thing and possibly the most laughable is at the bottom it says, "Example bill, do not pay".

Who would pay it?! Are they afraid that their clientele are so extremely stupid that they would automatically think they had all this stuff done to their vehicles and would pay an unlisted shop all this money for something that was never done?

Hey Marge, write out a check for $10,000 so I can pay my vehicle repair bill that I got in the mail today.
What bill is that?
I can't remember, but I had a new engine and transmission put in the car about a month ago so let's make sure they get paid for the work.

I don't own a car (as I'm vision impaired), but if I did, I sure as hell wouldn't get an extended warranty from a third party like that.   The whole US Fidelis fiasco left a bad taste in my mouth.
