Wow! Do you hate your car? Do you trust everyone? Are you so rich you don't need to rent your car to a stranger? I worry when Mama drives my truck, it's just so much bigger than her Edge. |

Check out Uber Man on YouTube and his experience with Turo. Yeah, not too good. One punk took his Chevy Cruze and returned it in such horrible condition, smoked in with ash and butts all over, sticky stuff spilled in the cup holders, etc...and then he quietly returned the car, left the key on the hood, and took off thinking he wouldn't be caught.

Sounds like the intent is to exploit and capitalize on people's financial hardships and desperation to keep their payments up.
I wonder how they cover the liability issue. Any damage done by your car, no matter who was driving, is your responsibility. They must have a damage waiver or something. Still, I'd never let anyone else drive my car. |

They have a customer support number but trying to get them to pay for damages is like trying to get a pile of bricks to pick themselves up and relocate itself. Not sure if Turo offers some sort of special insurance or guarantee but that's just ridiculous. Maybe if this was the 20s, this would be acceptable. But these days, you don't know how the heck you're going to get. Personally, the financial return isn't worth the actual risk you're taking using this sort of service |

The commercial itself doesn't bug me. However, my reaction is pretty much the same as y'all. As Jay Leno is famous for saying, "what could possibly go wrong?!"

My reaction upon watching this was - Are these people completely out of their minds???
I see that Turo calls those who use your car "guests", and we all know what they say about guests and fish after a couple of days.

(I'ma pokin' one at 'daCat! I just GOT TO!) CC?!!! *I* thought you waz a 'bonafied' legally-type professunal! *I* just KNOW you wouldn't steer a fellow board member astray and only find us once again posting from computer time at the State Prison of choice. ~~~ And now, my flock, *MY* opinion via the reading of Pawism #4: Entrepreneurialism is the fine art of starting a new business off of a new idea. This (Turo) is a new idea. That doesn't mean all new ideas are GOOD, or..well. even thought out to a decent degree as ol'Mule states about something as basic and simple as INSURANCE LIABILITY. Heck, SOME businesses probably aren't even legal due to something as simple as basic risk and liability not being assessed. Look at what many states are modifying their own laws and killing off businesses like HomeAway and AirBnB - same stinkin' concept, just using residences rather than autos. Given that alone, I see this business as a short-lived/'it happened once upon a time' thing. Don't join in and don't rent from - you just can't win as those already in will be trying to get away when they get burned or see the legal 'end of the road' for the business, so they'll be looking for someone just like you to bail them out. IF you decide not to listen to the 'howl of the informed', you will remain one of the teeming mass of mindless minions and there will be but one song left to sing. That is the 'Word of 'da Wolf' and the end of Pawism #4. For those that, in any way, shape, or form disagree, you may now bow down and kiss my tail and then stand and sing along as we close the Pawible. ~~~ Yeaaaa., don't go there, Ladies! George Clooney is not my son or my twin - he just LOOKS like me and he isn't 'single' anymore. |

Now, PaW...I would certainly never presume to lead anyone away from their God-given right to risk their financial future by relying on a "new idea" - as noted above - hey, what could possibly go wrong? A quick search on the ol' InterTubes indicated that Turo is not a new idea, just a new iteration of "RelayRides", a company that started about ten years ago (in Boston, apparently ) and got into a wee bit of trouble with the Government as to some... errr... misrepresentations concerning insurance coverage. Hmmmm...But now, under its new name, Turo does, apparently, cover vehicles with "up to" a million dollars to "protect car owners against lawsuits for injuries and property damage". And (at least according to Wiki P, so take it with a grain of salt) who is that insurance placed with? Why, none other than our old friends at Liberty Mutual!! So I ask myself, what would a million in insurance cover in a personal injury claim these days, especially, let's suppose, an accident involving a number of people, possibly including kids. A million dollars just ain't what it used to be. Former Turo-Guests-Turned-Plaintiffs will likely sue everyone they can possibly name, including the car owner. It's just too much risk to take, IMHO. So no, you can't borrow my car!! |

I'm not 'bonafied'...and I stand corrected and much more informed.
Thank You, CC. How much do I owe you for the wisdom?

^^ PaW, you get the "friends and family" discount! That is, no charge of course!
And on a more serious note...we can't protect ourselves enough against the predators out there who seek to capitalize on people's good nature, or their need to reduce their car payments/expenses, as pointed out above. I don't like the fact that the ad is so giddy with its "what a great idea, isn't this so much nicer than a regular rental car company experience". Turo doesn't bother to really explain all of the potential (big) trouble that could result to the consumer - particularly the car owner -- while they stroll away like Sylvester McMonkey McBean with all the money.
