I was watching Major League Baseball today............... The teams or score don't matter much.

But it got me to wondering...................

If a player hits a homerun.................

Why does he still "Run The Bases?"

I mean everyone knows it scores a point.

Has anyone ever missed a base and been called "OUT?"

I say..................... "Add one to the score card and move on with things."

It's a victory lap, a celebration!  Maybe one of the experts on Baseball, NiteRaidah or PaWolf can ring in with the rule.

From someone on the net:

As others have said, the batter must touch all bases for his run to count.

A famous example of a batter's failure to do so is Robin Ventura's game-ending hit in the 1999 NLCS.  With the bases loaded in a tied game in the bottom of the 15th inning, Ventura hit the ball over the fence. The runner from 3rd scored to win the game for the Mets, but Ventura never made it beyond 1st base. Accordingly, Ventura received credit for a single and 1 RBI, and only the run scored by the runner on 3rd base counted.

That sounds like a bunch of horse apples............. If he hit a home run, and the runner from third scored.  THE GAME IS OVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm surprised they didn't call the cops and have everyone arrested!

Was Ventura prevented from touching first because of being mobbed? If that be the case, then whenever any big home run is hit (like a walkoff), the player who hit it must be allowed to touch all bases before his teammates mob him in celebration. I don't get why they are out there at the moment of the home run to mob him and keep him from touching all bases. If there's going to be a mob, it should be after the player touches all bases.

Then all the batters should be given a side arm to keep the MOBS away.

But if you wait for the hero to round the bases, the thrill is gone by the time he touches home plate - it really only counts when you go nuts and screw up your win and his stats.
