So what the bloody hell is the deal with this PSA? A group of young guys get into a car. The guy at the wheel looks like a jerk. A guy in the back says something like "drive safely", and the driver says something along the lines of "no". Then the guy in the back goes off talking about horses and how much he loves them. He then says, "I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you don't slow down I'm going to bite into your head like an apple".
THAT'S the best way they could come up with to convey a message about safe driving? Maybe I'm just not the "target demographic" (drunken frat boys who need to hear something insane in order to take notice for a second?), but it seems a bit ill concieved and it's frankly jarring to hear. |

Sounds like that guy confused horses with zombies.

This just sounds surreal. I am going to have to find this commercial and actually see it.

I haven't seen that particular one with the guy saying "I'm going to bite into your head like an apple", but I've seen others.
The one I like is the one with the guy (Who is that guy? He looks familiar.) in the back seat holding a camera and telling the guy next to him to say his goodbyes to his parents.

OMG the rage, the RAGE!!!! Never mind the fact that the kid in back looks stoned as hell and you can't understand anything he's saying, the other schmuck in back with the letterman jacket and the video camera looks to be about 45! Why the hell are these losers cruising around with their DAD? Is he one of those divorced dads who tries to score points with his kids by getting them liquor from 7-11 and sneaking them into nudie bars? The guy's a douche! I'd rather see that texting PSA from the UK with the girls getting into the car accident than see this crap again ARGH!

I looked at some of the other videos for these PSA's and they all used a "famous" older person in the back seat. I recognize the guy, but can't remember his name.

HAA I laughed when I saw the headline of this thread.
I say that exact things to my wife all the time. Seriously, I just picture it and if I am kissing her head I will suddenly just say that. Weird. |

That guy is Rob Riggle. He's a comedian who was on Saturday Night Live for one season and I think he's on The Daily Show now.

But why? What's the point? Am I missing something? PSAs aren't known to be subtle but I feel like this is going right over my head.

I think the point is to meerly make the reckless drivers, at the very least, think of the possible aftermath of a crash. The one older guy wants to film the younger guys saying goodbye to their mothers. I doubt that most reckless drivers consider what could happen.
Not too long ago, near me, a young reckless driver was decapitated when his car went out of control and hit a pole. Now, he's forced his family to have to live with the picture of their son's/brother's head being torn out of his body, for the rest of their lives. I'm sure he didn't mean to do that to them...but he did it.

No, I mean I get the point of the commercial but someone said there's an older guy in every commercial while the rest of them are young kids. I don't understand what the point of that is. Wouldn't it be better if they were all young kids? Otherwise it's just like here we go another parental/adult/authority type figure lecturing us about driving ho hum

I don't know. These are hokey, but I often wonder about how accidents occur where no one says a thing to the driver. I figure, I'm worth a lot more than the piece of junk they're driving so, "it's my car", doesn't fly with me.

There are maybe four people I know whose driving I'm fine with. As far as the rest, I always ask them if they'd like me to drive. If not, I just grin and bear it, sometimes closing my eyes, and sometimes applying imaginary brakes.
I always try to be the one driving.

This is my problem too. I don't trust many people to drive and I hate driving, but my problem is twofold:

You could buy her a seat in a driving class for Christmas (/Hannuaka/Winter Solstice...) . I'm sure it would go over beautifully. :) |

I have to wonder if the people who write these PSA's are on an LSD bender when they come up with some of their ideas....

Yeah, because what I want is no sex for Christmas. I'll just keep closing my eyes and praying.

I love how they call it Dawson casting when 90210 was guilty of it when Dawson's Creek cast was still in preschool... or something;) I mean wasn't Andrea 45 at the time (I'm kidding but I think she was about 32 and playing a 17 year old:-P).
