I looked for a thread on this but didn't see one. I LOVE THIS COMMERCIAL. I laugh so hard every time it comes on. Especially when the dad is Twittering "I am sitting on the porch."

LOL... That is my family.

Yeah, I love how later they had to insert the Verizon guy, explaining that everyone can see the mother's "I love you" all over the daughter's page.  I guess not everyone is on Facebook, huh, Verizon?

Probly not. I'm sure there will be something on the other board about it soon. To each their own!

Does every social networking site have to be Facebook or Twitter?

Well, there's also MySpace.  But I find Facebook easier to read.  I hated all the crappy backgrounds and hard-to-read colors that people would use on their pages.

Yeah...black text on a white background...how novel!

Some of those 'hot pink on teal' or 'black on navy blue' color schemes on other sites are a bit much!

Anyone notice how red on blue (or vice-versa) actually seems to shimmer?  It's kinda pretty and psychedelic, but I don't need pretty and psychedelic when I'm trying to read something.

Yeah, I know...with me, it's more like it's 'jumping up and down'  or 'blinking' more than 'shimmering', but that combination of colors has some sort of 'optical illusion' effect on most people.

Yes, Thor and Irishman, those are horribly irritating!  And even just the dark blue text on a black background.  I'm old and my eyesight isn't what it used to be!  Plus you have the younger ones who insist on putting their music on their page, so that when you open up the page, you get blasted by whatever noise music they want to "share" with you.

Additionally, it seems the thug and gangsta talk is more prevalent on MySpace (and I'm talking about young people who are--embarrassingly--related to me and are white).  You don't get that on Facebook.  At least, I haven't seen it.  I just think Facebook draws a more intelligent (at least literate) population.

Yeah, those words might be more accurate.  I was also thinking "flip-flop" cuz it kinda flip-flops, depending on where you focus your eyes.

I use my TV for watching DVDs and that's pretty much it.  While I do have the digital converter box and rabbit ears, the signal is total crap so I don't watch much TV at all.  And somehow, that is perfectly fine with me.
Advertising is a racket, like the movies and the brokerage business. You cannot be honest without admitting that its constructive contribution to humanity is exactly minus zero.

I love this commercial too.  It seems as if the parents are being annoying to the kids on purpose.  It cracks me up too.

Facebook was first advertised as being intended for somewhat older users than MySpace.
A couple of years ago, when FB was around, but not as popular, and MySpace was still considered the 'in' network site, there was a joke I heard on some news show...paraphrasing, 'Everybody's on MySpace, but their parents are on Facebook!'LOL
And before long, MySpace started losing popularity, and FB was king!

Until recently (a year or two?), Facebook was for college students only.  Then it opened up.  MySpace got popular with adults--mostly musicians who could share their music and get it out to the public for free.

Plus Facebook emphasizes real names, and not "Mah baby luvs me" as a profile name and 99 years old as the age. It just feels more professional. Myspace became over run with stupid 12 year olds pretending they meet the minimum age for a profile (15 I think? It was when I signed up at least) with crappy layouts and crappier music. That's the ONLY thing I like about Myspace slightly more is the music player. I'd like to have a music player on my Facebook, but everything else there just works better. I migrated from Myspace and barely check my profile anymore. The only friend requests I get are from stupid kids saying "ay yo baby u cute we should hook up", Ugh wtf.

Facebook also only was open to college students. You had to have an edu suffix email to register.
It was in reference to the old college "facebooks" (not so old, I remember my wife got on at University of Oregon in 99) that showed incoming and new students, their names, and their hometown and majors.

I think they saw how big Myspace was and decided to go public to everyone
