A few posts back, Jimmy ranted about a bad Pennsylvania anti-smoking ad. Well, if you think that commercial was bad, wait'll you see what we're subjected to here in NYC. These ads are shown at all hours of the day, even during family shows.

WARNING - these commercials contain graphic material that will possibly make you lose your lunch. View at your own risk!

This next ad is from Australia but they showed it here a couple of years ago with the NY number at the end. This one haunted me for a long time.

Don't say I didn't warn you. DeadDead

Forget these...nothing beats thetruth.com's awful ads for sheer stupidity. They are aimed at kids who don't know that "trendy" and "stupid" are often the same thing (see Adult Swim's "Tim & Eric" Awesome Show Great Job" as exhibit A). And they are full of lies. They aren't even anti-tobacco. They are anti-tobacco corporation.

NYC ran ads last year featuring a hispanic male and his hole in his throat. He pines about not being able to swim like he did as a kid. I think they were just too funny to keep on the air, and I can't seem to find them on youtube.

I like when the artery commercial comes on before I have my first cup of coffee of the day. It's equally pleasing sitting down to a meal and seeing this.

String cheese anyone?

That boil originally came to CIH via Skerlnik.  Just wanna give credit where credit is due.  However, I'm picturing the boil contents to be somewhat wetter and creamier.

I witnessed a live demonstration where a couple of guys used a PVC pipe contraption connected to a foot operated air pump to inflate a couple of pairs of real human lungs.

They had them in containers of formaldehyde. One was from a non-smoker, & the other was from a heavy smoker.

Needless to say, the heavy smoker's lungs were black & shrivelled & wouldn't inflate very much, whereas the non-smoker's lungs were a nice, healthy pink & inflated to like 3 times their uninflated size when pumped full of air.

It was truly creepy & gross.

There's a new ad running now for the NY Quitline.  It bugs the hell outta me.  There's a woman charging up stairs and she's out of breath.  But she's got a heavy AUSSIE ACCENT  (WTF?)  and she pronounces "smoke" like "SMIKE" and then she says "SMIKING".  We need to stop "SMIKING".   I dunno.  Embarrassed   That accent just irks the beejesus outta me for this type of ad.   Dead

Smokes are still a lot cheaper in Florida, though. New York is up to $10 a pack. I actually heard someone gleefully say "These were only $8.40" while waving a pack of Newports.

Cigs are around $6.25 per pack, in this area.
What I find amazing is the lack of support groups for this addiction - the worst and hardest to kick. Even though many groups are listed, few are actually active around here.

Tobacco Addicts (and Alcohal Addicts) would LOVE me if I were the President. You want "Free" Health Care? You'll have it, but in order to pay for it I'd impose a Tax of $5.00 Per Pack of Cigerettes or any other Tobacco Product, as well as a $2.50 Tax per 12 oz Can of Beer, and $5.00 Tax Per Liter of Wine and 1/5 of Liqour!

Holy uh... SMOKE! Shocked   So glad I quit.   When I was in college in the early 80's one could buy an entire carton of Merit Ultra Lights Menthol 100's Wink  for less than $6.00.     The college 'skellar vending machines had them for about .75 a pack!

I've seen this ad, too. It's probably an Australian ad with the New York information at the end. BTW, what is "smiking"? A combination of smoke and smirking? Really lady, it's called enunciation. Ermm

Yes, they are horrible.  If they stop even one kid from smoking, I am ok with them.
