Long ago, there used to be an extremely popular website called "jumptheshark.com". It had forums where users could vent about when TV shows "jumped the shark".

Now, I'm sure that most here at CIH knows what "jump the shark" means, but for the few who don't, here is Wikipedia's definition:

"Jumping the shark is the moment when something that was once popular, but that no longer warrants the attention it previously received, makes an attempt at publicity, which only serves to highlight its irrelevance.

"The phrase 'jump the shark' is based on a scene in the fifth season premiere episode of the 1970s American TV series Happy Days titled 'Hollywood: Part 3'... which aired on September 20, 1977. In the episode, the central characters visit Los Angeles, where a water-skiing Fonzie (Henry Winkler) answers a challenge to his bravery by wearing swim trunks and his trademark leather jacket, and jumping over a confined shark. The stunt was created as a way to showcase Winkler's real-life water ski skills."

So, users listed specific episodes where a TV series went from significant/praiseworthy to "WTF"?!? There was also a sub-forum for shows that never "jumped the shark".

Anyway, at some point in time, TVGuide.com acquired "jumptheshark.com" and shut it down. And that was the end of that glorious era.

It would be great if the Powers That Be of commercialsihate.com were to create a subforum for TV shows that have Jumped The Shark.

This thread should do.

Sometime a few years ago, The Walking Dead turned into a typical action flick. I stopped watching at that point.

Usually, any time a show introduces some new kid (often adopted), they've jumped the shark.

I've always maintained that the fastest way to ruin a perfectly good show is to put a damned kid into it.

Examples:

Pebbles and Bam Bam.

Tabitha Stevens.

Leave It To Beaver would have been a much better show without that little fu¢king Beaver a-hole in it always fu¢king everything up.

I hate that little bastard.

There was also a website (been defunct for several years now) called "Television Without Pity" or TWOP.  I used to go the extensive forum on that site.   It was basically a treasure trove of people's annoyances with TV shows, movies and commercials.

I wish it could be brought back, even better than before.    Big smile

Wow. He was just a little kid, trying to find his way.

Go f**k yourself, "Jimbo".

My, some of us take our TV seriously, don't we, "Dunestrider"? Stern Smile

I cordially invite you to go and do the same.
