...Frasier's dad.
Dead at 77 y/o. Shown below with his dog Eddie Spaghetti in his tattered old easy chair that he brought with him when he moved in with Frasier, ruining the tastefully appointed decor of his son's apartment... RIP Mr Mahoney. |

Aw, I loved watching him on "Frasier." Martin Crane was a sweet, funny character.
Mahoney was also in "Frantic" with Harrison Ford. That's pretty much my only other memory of him.

He played on a later episode of Cheers, but he didn't play Frasier's dad. He played the part of a crappy piano player.
Later, long after Cheers ended, he did a guest role on Ted Danson's show Becker. He was in an episode of the British detective series Foyle's War and long ago, played a cop in the film Striking Distance with Bruce Willis and Sarah Jessica Parker. Those are the roles I remember him from outside of Frasier. |

RIP John Mahoney.
He was one of those 'everyday actors' who basically fit comfortably in any role he took on. When he was comfortable in his role, we were comfortable watching stories progress. Always enjoyed his presence but never could remember his name and for that, I apologize...

What damn shame, I remember his character on Fraiser can't remember specific scenes though seemed like a nice person. That Cheers clip, freaking hilarious! He'll be missed.
