'Health Alert,' 'Auto Matters,' 'Consumer Reports,' even that Angie's List girl gets a news segment every week. THAT IS NOT NEWS! Put that crap on GMA or Today or whatever other lifestyle/daytime shows there are! The only station here in town for local news (KIMA) only tells you what they WANT you to know...not what you need to know. They rarely ever talk about road construction, accidents, community events, etc. - things that people SHOULD know. When major arterial streets in Yakima have road construction, KIMA rarely reports this. If a local church is giving away food to needy people, they won't tell you when it happens, but report on it at 5:00, hours after the food was given away. The weather comes from their Tri-Cities sister station and is unreliable half of the time.
Local news channels can be so bad it's amusing and other times frustrating. Yesterday it was the latter. One of the many human interest 'filler' reports. A woman somewhere had grown a giant avocado. Ho. Hum... There was a photo of the woman holding up the impressively large avocado. It's dimensions were reported as: Weight: 5 pounds/8 ounces. Length: 11 inches. Diameter: 1 1/2 feet. The diameter was about 6 inches. The 1 1/2 feet was obviously the circumference. I expect errors but this report was given by 3 different newscasters. Morning, noon, and evening. Obviously they just read whatever is on the prompter.
Another problem with math this AM. The report was an incomplete tunnel from Mexico to California. The tunnel was 627 feet long. "nearly 5 football fields"! It has been 52 years since I played football but as far as I know they are still 100 yards (300 feet). 120 yards (360 feet) if the end zones are counted. 627 feet would be 2 100 yard football fields plus 27 feet. It was repeated twice during the newscast. The 2 female newscasters may be unfamiliar with football field dimensions but there are many people in the studio.Confused

It is worthy............. To Ralph........... The networks video editor..... He sits in a closet size office munching on cold French Fries and his job is to say the very same thing as many different ways as possible. (read CHEAP!) (and as long as the fries hold out)

How much longer do I have to hear about that protestor who climbed halfway up the Statue of Liberty?  Was it really that newsworthy?

There is always a rush to be the first to report 'NEWS' - the more shocking, the better - no matter valid or not. Sometimes it is amazing how obviously wrong and offensive...yet people keep their jobs and stations remain on the air, believing an apology fix things.

Good on them! I gotta be honest with you-- every time my father turns on FOX "News," I have to put headphones on when I'm on the computer, or go into another room. Headphones increase the risk of a hearing loss, I know, but every time I hear those Republican right-wing jokers screaming about how, among other things, we need to hate liberals or be considered America-haters (and yes, I will admit, the other side does it too, vice-versa), I oftentimes think that I would much rather have a hearing loss than listen for one more minute to those FOX "News" jokers!

Also, to be honest about another thing, one of the worst sound effects I've ever heard in my life is the "whoooosh-BANG!" of a so-called "FOX 'News' ALERT"-- I get so tired of it!

If you report the same "NEWS" but with different words and/or use a different face is it all really "NEWS?"

Here's, at least IMO, two great examples of when newscasts were newscasts:

First, from WXIA Channel 11 in Atlanta circa 1980 (when that Atlanta station was with ABC; now it's with NBC [became so later in 1980, IIRC]): a weekend edition of 11 Alive Newsroom w/Ellen Burstein...

Then, from WCBD Channel 2 in Charleston, SC in 1986 (when that Charleston station was with ABC; it went to NBC in 1996): TV-2 Eyewitness News (the 6 P.M. report w/Jill Franco)...

In each one of those, it was news, weather and sports, and in the latter, there was an Action Line consumer report; there was, however, in the latter besides the consumer report, no more of the irrelevant filler that crainbebo complained about (at least, not that I saw).

Thought you'd like to see these!

Gal #2 might not be a covergirl, but gal #1 looks like she steps on puppies for relaxation.

Aside from Trump himself, I think she might be the most hideous person that I've ever seen.

She is really more of a fitting wife for Trump than the Slovenian ex-hooker/porn model he's got now.

But I guess Putin wanted a loyal spy inside the WH, so Melanomia it was.

As I said………. You Can’t Use This!!!!  But it’s about TV so mayhaps you can. It’s about the “news” I thought they were supposed to report the NEWS? All the “National” news shows can get out is POLITICS!!!!  This is not just local broadcasts.  It’s the likes of CNN and Fox and MSNBC and on and on. If a state is not burning down or a few dozen folks haven’t died from a rampaging rabid rabbit they turn to politics. And the President or a congress person or the walker of the White House’s, gardener’s, friends dog. They stand him in front of a green/screen and pump in a picture of some place looking official. Then they have the balls to call it “News”.
