Don't really hate them but always surprised to learn the song wasn't written for the product being advertised but is a song the advertiser used to create the ad. This "Hungry Eyes" is the latest one I've noticed. Never imagined it was an actual song until Googling it.

So how about a list of other ads that knockoff an existing tune?

That newer Bounce commercial which butchers the Outfield's "Your Love".   I want to put corks in my ears every time I see it!    Unhappy

Just saw an ad from some car company which I totally ignored because they were playing Queen's song "Don't Stop Me Now". As a huge Queen fan, it offends me. I also wonder if the adtards get permission to use these songs.

No doubt it's all handled through contracts and lawyers, etc.  There's also probably little doubt that this is what the artists want.  Hell, if Queen can make money off of a song that few people are buying anymore, anyway, why wouldn't they want this?  Maybe the commercial will spur people to buy the actual song.

Assuming Queen (or the member(s) of the band who wrote it) even owns the rights to the song anymore.

If Freddie wrote it, the rights could belong to anyone now.

Who can forget "Crumbelievable"?  In that case, the band approved the use of the song; they actually rerecorded it for Kraft.  LOL

Those bands just sounded like blends of a million other bands.

That said, I can now tolerate Eye of the Tiger a little better than I could back then.

Here's some oldies:

I remember the gray hair thing.

Then of course, there was the famous "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" ad campaign from the 70's.

I'm feeling very luck that I don't recognize that one!  Big smile

But, if it's the song I'm thinking of, I never really liked it in the first place, so probably no harm done.

Yikes!!  What am I saying?!  Shocked
It's commercial advertising -- OF COURSE it'll be far worse than imaginable!
(Still glad I didn't see/hear "crumbelievable".)    Super-glad!

I can only do Survivor, so here goes:

Jim Peterik (founder, formerly of the Ides of March)
Dave Bickler
Jimi Jamison (replaced Dave as lead vocalist)

That's all I got.......

"I'm going to wash that gray right out of my hair" is a direct rip off of "I'm going to wash that man right out of my hair" from the musical "South Pacific" so it is a perfect fit in this thread.

Yeah, I remember that song, but I didn't know it was from a musical.

What?!?  Shocked  The only member of Queen who has passed away is Freddie Mercury in 1991.  All other members are still alive.

I think the name of Mr. Mister's lead singer is Richard Page.

There are so, so many commercials that steal the original, usually classic, song or adapt it with piss poor so called music (talent).  The list is endless and mind boggling.

How would you place this song, if you were an adhole?

A condom commercial?
The morning after pill?
Domestic violence?
STDs R us?

I just read the lyrics.  It's about cheating (the guy tries to justify his cheating by saying he's only human, only a man).  This is the same storyline as the old Lou Christie song, Lightning Strikes.

Anyway, Ashley Madison?

If I were making an ad for any of those products, or possibly even a jock itch cream, I think I'd want to use this song...
