Yet another over-the-air digital channel that carries a number of sci-fi series, so-bad-they're-good B-movies of the '50s and '60s, and to top it off - MST3K reruns! For those of you who have access to it on a strong over-the-air station, you're lucky; for those who don't, they still stream their content on their website.

Cool!!!!
I'm not really a sci-fi fan, but I'm all for as many new over the air broadcast channels as possible. And though they haven't started up yet where I live (though I suspect they will soon because we get them all) you can live stream them right from the website. Comet TV Thanks for posting that, DX!!!! |

I've seen some strange movies that I never would have seen through Comet. Lately, they've been airing a 1953 low-budget sci-fi classic called "The Twonky" about a TV which can walk and do weird things, among others. I'd ditch the dish if they carried it on a station here where you can receive it, but I live more than 15 miles away from the low-powered transmitter (at least I can get Antenna TV clearly).
If you live in an area where the NBC, CBS, etc. affiliate carries an all-weather channel or one of those redundant MeTV clones, I'd say call them and tell them to carry Comet instead!

I've friends that have the Comet Channel. Sometimes when we are playing cards, it is on in the background - and YES! MST3K is there.

We get RTV (Retro Television) here and they run both MST3K and old Dr Who reruns to boot.
Some of their Dr Who episodes go way back to the 60's and 70's. |

Instead???? You mean "too". I wouldn't want to give up one for the other. As far as your antenna reception is concerned, I think it's time you visit Solid Signal and browse their selection of high powered antennas, signal boosters and accessories. You might open up a whole new world of free TV. Other than the cost of a couple of antennas, I haven't paid a penny to watch TV in going on 14 years now. As Andy Rooney would say.... "I like that." |

Here, we have a news rerun channel and two weather channels on strong over-the-air signals. And I'm in a place where the weather is nice 3/4 of the year. Some of the good subchannels are relegated to low power stations. Yes, I could put up an antenna, but their technical quality from the studio side has a lot to be desired too. Also, Retro TV is a rather bush league operation compared to Comet. Outside of "MST3K" and "Doctor Who," they've got recent Canadian dramas and public-domain reruns from the '50s. |

I think ALL digital subchannels are low power no matter where you live. Anytime a station adds a subchannel to its bandwidth, it takes some power away from the main channel while only getting a small portion of the total broadcast signal itself. But with a good, long range antenna and a signal booster, you can still get enough of a signal to watch it. As far as RTV is concerned, I don't really watch it much. It's just nice to have as another option just in case I'm ever in the mood to watch something they happen to be showing. As I have occasionally done in the cases of MST3K and Dr Who. And like I said, I'm not much into sci-fi anyway. |
