The only real appeal of Leave it to Beaver is a snapshot of a time in our history long gone. (If it ever existed in the first place.)
You just can't do a new Leave it to Beaver.

"Remake our show? BOY, Beav, you've had some pretty crummy ideas before, but that's prob'ly the crummiest! Nobody wants to see remakes of old sitcoms an' junk!"

It's good for seeing how weird people used to be a long time ago. Or studying differences in family behavior between now and the 1950s in a sociology type class. If you want to remake "beaver", at least make it a parody emphasizing on the sexism and racism of the 1950s. And c'mon, they named the kid BEAVER. BEAVER!! That's a joke right there!! |

"Ward, weren't you a little hard on the Beaver last night?"
(Sometimes the obvious jokes are the funniest!)

The good news (if you look at it that way) is that they don't have to remake LITB, it was already done. In fact 101 episodes worth of "Still the Beaver" starting back in 1986
A great parody was done on SCTV some years back that was supposed to be the 25th anniversary of Beaver. In it Ward was a drunk, Wally and Eddie have a secret relationship, and Beaver, unemployed all his life, ends up shooting Eddie.
Even with that description it was pretty darn funny

The late night talk shows (Leno, Letterman, et al) run over at least 3 minutes every night. I always have to program the DVR to "end late" and record 5 extra minutes. And I've also found that some prime time shows even start a few minutes EARLY! Guhhhh...
