... (and by that I mean, as early as 4:30 A.M. as it is now), this is, for one thing, what was on ABC stations at 6 A.M. It was World News This Morning, and it came from ABC's bureau in Washington. It was on from 6-7 A.M., and had Kathleen Sullivan and Steve Bell. It didn't always have them, though; here's an opening from 1987 that showed Jed Duvall and Edie Magnus (mislabeled as "World News Today" on the video header).

Wow! Cool! Back when ABC News actually didn't suck! I'd would of been about 7 months old when this was first broadcast! Hehe!

Yep. Imagine that! A time where overnight news wasn't really the norm. Most stations signed off at night and came on at 5:30 or 6AM. A lot of the time, it was shows like this that started the broadcast day. NBC had their own show, NBC News at Sunrise (now Early Today), and CBS had their morning news and the overnight Nightwatch program.
Even in this little market, we have morning news starting at 4:30AM. Ridiculous, when the only people up are farmers. Our Fox station airs AgDay every morning at 6AM.
Back after a long absence...still hating those commercials. Go away Limu Emu and Doug!

Here's an example of that, from WPRI Channel 12 in Providence, RI in 1982 (then the ABC station of that area; now CBS). This was when the ABC News show I just mentioned had a different title: ABC News This Morning.

I love the ol' ABC News theme! I thought it was stupid of them to drop it from TV's World News for some generic sound around 2012 to 2013. It is so iconic and recognizable, why change it? Luckily, they still have the theme for the ABC World News Roundup on WJMJ!
