Big smileWinkI've always been a huge fan of any good psycho-thriller. I saw the pilot and pretty much liked it,  but then again, it kinda, sorta gets close to my profession. Gets closer to the 'hacker nerd layer' a lot better than most shows do until a few total bullsh*t techno terms got used which always spoils things for me. If you miss them and you're a bit of an anti-social techno nerd, you'll love the show.

Here's a link to the full pilot episode - well worth watching:

I love good psycho-thrillers too, and based on your recommendation I'll give this one a chance. I have to say though that the commercials are extremely off-putting for me, being so heavy on the cliches: the blue tint of the film, the anemic-looking lead actor with those disturbing, freakishly huge eyes, and the obvious, desperate effort to appear cool. But if they repeatedly lay a loud music track over the action to demonstrate their up-to-the-minute awareness of current musical tastes, I'm out.

I soldiered on through all the predictables, including the aforementioned music track (was that an elderly Neil Diamond?). Anyway, I now realize the show is a spoof; I wasn't prepared for that. It made me chuckle a couple of times with its ham-handed derivative material, but overall not terribly funny.

I don't see the story as a spoof, much less funny...hmmm - where'd you come up with that?

It's a formula designed to appeal to 15 year-old girls. Enjoy.

How does criticizing cliches make someone a troll? Just because you disagree?

No, suggesting that someone who likes something you don't like has the mentality of a 15-year-old girl makes someone a troll.

Or, at least, the remark could easily be interpreted as trolling, given that others had already stated that they liked the show.

Just sayin'.

The protagonist is a wispy, doe-eyed, nearly asexual, extremely sensitive, genius boy. In one of the first scenes, he sits in the corner crying because he's so overwhelmed. He's intensely caring to his female friend. He's a techno-hero, his targets child porn and a cheating husband. One of the stipulations for the husband's silence is that he surrender his mistreated dog. If this isn't the perfect, nonthreatening, heroic formula for a 15 year-old girl audience, I don't know what is.

Of course others will like it. Hollywood counts on it. If that makes me a troll, then the definition is as good as meaningless.

Just writin'.

The definition is spot-on, given the condescending tone of this comment. It reeks of insult to those who had posted before that they liked it or were interested.

And thank you for the correction, but I'm aware this is writing and not speaking. I'm not totally in the Dark.

You don't list your age, I'm in my 50s and found the episode on this morning interesting.

There are probably games and shows that you like that don't appeal to me.
Just keep in mind that your opinion is just that.

I figured you for one of those bad girls, the kind that wears a plaid skirt ironically even though it's not required and paints her fingernails black. The kind that gets sent to summer school.

LOL

That reminds me of a movie I saw the other day, But I'm a Cheerleader.
It's about young gay people being sent to a school to "get the gay out". It was really kinda funny.

The show looks interesting enough, however it's a big pain in the ass to try to figure out what buildings are under construction in the promo where there's a view of Downtown Manhattan from a window. Where silhouettes in front can be seen. It doesn't look like 1WTC and 4WTC is it something the Evil Corp is working on?
One good thing about TV-you could always turn it off

For those wondering why I might like the show:

'caus I'm a 15 year old girl. A 2nd generation American removed from Nirobi where my family ended up after fleeing India because society couldn't figure what caste level our Indian-Italian-Chinese and then-inbred family fit in. So we moved to the Bronx from Africa and now I'm a 'don't wanna be a virgin'-virgin girl with coke-bottle glasses and no tits, but I DO have 4 buck teeth and I'm not quite black, but I think I'd marry one if I had any social skills.
And I'm really good with computers.
And I know all about you if I want to.
And Elliot is my heroHeart

...or maybe not, for the most part.
Maybe I'm partial to psycho thrillers, maybe I'm also familiar with the real 'game' and have a feel for how close to reality this show really gets, along with the obvious faults (there are a few grave technical flaws...anyone else notice? Think they were on purpose?)
Maybe I know a little about NYC, worked there off and on over time, will go every chance I get, and everything you see fits, all the way down to 'Mr. Robot (Christian Slater)'.
Heck, who knows, eh?
Maybe I'm just full of sh*t.
These are strange & winderful days and the pilot is one of the better I've seen.
