Okay, I can understand some words censored on TV or actions, but have a movie be near fast-forward?!

I was watching "Goodfellas" on A&E on TV...thankfully I have it on tape and it wasn't recorded on TV...I realized that this version was sped-up!

What next...show "Gone with the Wind" in a minute and have an assload of commercials?!

Not movies but old TV shows.

They speed up the opening and closing credits on Mister Ed!

I'm also mentioning movies on TV. It seems that stations want more and more commercials than show!

And no...they don't sound like chipmunks.

Even BBC America does this. When they air new episodes they say the premiere airing is "Uncut" but scenes get sped up.

I always hated the dubbing of unrelated words over the censored words. Idiots!

Agreed.  Just mute them out which works just fine.  Snakes on a Plane's replacements with "mother****in" is probably one of the most egregious I've heard.   Samuel L Jackson was apparently fed up with all the monkey fighting snakes on the Monday-Friday plane. Confused

What really pisses me off is when they trim the movie, be it parts within a scene, or in some cases, an entire scene (one I experienced was an early important scene as far as character development, not to mention the only time the 2 main characters were on screen together until the end).  Why?  To fit more commercials in the 2.5-3 hour time slot.

I watch reruns of The Middle on the Hallmark Channel.  They mute the words "ass" and "bastard".  Silly.

I wish people on TV (in interviews, late-night panel shows, etc.) would just censor themselves.  Sometimes I can tell what word is being muted or bleeped, but sometimes it's beyond just a single word.  I find the muting and bleeps very distracting.  Just censor yourselves, you stupid f*cks!  It's easy enough.

I enjoy watching Jimmy Kimmel's weekly bit "This Week in Unnecessary Censorship", where they blur & bleep things that didn't need to be, thus creating the false impression that something dirty was said or shown.

I used to tape South Park when it was on network TV.  They'd bleep the curse words, which actually made it funnier than the uncensored DVD episodes I've been watching lately.  As for sped up movies, some may be so bad that they should be sped up....  LOL

^^ That's a good point Mr Tim.  The bleeping does in a way add to the humor.  I'm not sure exactly how or why it does, it just does:

The bleep just gives it more of that "oops" factor LOL

Then there's Bobby Knight who once alluded to the bleeping during the interview knowing he would be getting bleeped (in the first clip):

Yeah...MeTV speeds up the credits to a lot of its shows. The theme will sound like it's at warp speed, then slow down to its normal tempo. Love the station (especially since it refrains from popups or squeezed credits), but it's pretty distracting, if not comical.

Kimmel's Unnecessary Censorship bit is hilarious.

speeding up content? that's nuthin' new, even in the dark ages of radio- I'm talkin' 1940s/50s, they sped up "Dragnet" and "Jack Benny" to fit into the 20 mins or so time slot. You can tell as their voices are a couple octaves higher. I know this because I listen to those old shows occasionally. It's unnerving.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about.  It always sounded a bit weird, especially when accompanied by that fake British-y accent so popular back then.

I'm a big "Golden Girls" fan and I swear to God the shows are getting shorter and shorter. I'm all ready for a good punch line and they cut portions out of the episodes. One day I'm going to watch Dorothy say "Shady Pines, Ma" and the show will be over.

I hate when networks cut to commercial in the middle of an action scene, which seems to be happening all to often.  Cut to commercial immediately before or after for christ sakes.  It sorta takes you out of the adrenaline rush whenever it goes from guns blazing to "After all these years, she's still the one for you ..." Angry

I remember a radio station, back in Indy, that played pop disco type crap.
They sped up the music enough to make it like a different song, crazy, just to shove in some more commercials.
I've never realy noticed this on TV, some networks will go split screen at the end of a movie.
Scrunch up the credits and go right into the next program, I kinda like that.

I remember in the late 80s Cheers reruns were sped up, Sam & Diane sounded like the Chipmunks!

You can tell ME TV adds extra commercial breaks because Man From UNCLE has Act I, Act II, etc. subtitles but if they come back after a commercial with no "Act" subtitle you know they're adding an extra break. It seems that most of their hour shows go to a commercial at 10 minutes before the hour, right in the middle of a climactic final action scene.

Cozi doesn't even run ending credits, unless it's a title card for the syndicator (for some guy named Paul Brownstein who now owns "Dick Van Dyke" & "Here's Lucy"). I asked a Maverick expert why Cozi doesn't run ending credits for that show and he told me they have no legal obligation to do so.

TBS and TNT does this a lot! Going from one show to the next. Problem is they shrink the screens so much that if there is foreign language being spoken in the intro YOU CAN'T READ THE SUBTITLES! Or if youre trying to read small letters on a cellphone/computer screen/words written on a piece of paper tied to the plot YOU CANT READ THEM!Why don't they just squish the credits like other stations do? It'll save a whole lotta trouble!

TBS and TNT definitely do this. There was a video a few weeks ago of Seinfeld played faster on TBS. - so 2+ minutes of added commercials could be aired. It's real.

Being the dork I am I tested this also playing an episode I have on DVD and watching the same on TBS, within 35 seconds the TV was out of sync with the DVD. It also cuts to commercials edited out 1/2-1 second of footage from the original episode. TV was in fact faster.

During a viewing of a Flintstones episode on Boomerang, I noticed that the episode sounded like it was playing faster than usual, so I'd say Boomerang is potentially guilty of this.

Nickelodeon I definitely know does this with the good SpongeBob (Seasons 1-3).
