Nationwide ad agency has finally lost it's damn mind! Their newest commercial features a giant baby for no apparent good reason. What kind of idiotic agency came up with this obviously stupid, asinine, moronic bad idea?

Ken, if you payed attention there's a brief second where a blue Mustang with damage, can be seen in the baby's place. The car is "his baby" hence the giant baby. Get it?
I thought it was clever quiet non-idiotic commercial, that's my opinion anyway. |

I'm with Ken. Just saw this ad and had to log on to CIH to see if it was listed yet. It's creepy. The giant baby is creepy. Even if it's a visual substitute for the man's car being "his baby" I don't like it and I don't like the ending song. I'm also tired of the voiceover lady who always announced that Nationwide doesn't have shareholders.

I don't find it creepy. I like it, but I also agree with DarkRealm in that the voice over and jingle are irritants.

Thank you Codtaro, but I'm surprised you like babies (in commercials that is, I'm not saying you're a mean, baby-hating person).

It is arrogant and annoying that they say "in the nation" like their insurance company is the whole country. What also irritates me about the giant baby is that he's just sitting there in his diaper with no clothes on. They didn't even put a cute outfit on him, or have him holding a rattle. At first I thought we were in a diaper Pampers or Huggies commercial. It's also exploiting a little baby, although his bank account (or his parents' bank account) would disagree.

I'm getting tired of this ad. It was cute at first, but it's getting annoying now, and I never have liked that song (in case anyone's wondering, it's "Love Is Strange" by Mickey and Sylvia).

The is the worst commercial on right now. You know, everybody likes that song when they hear it in (the movie) Casino for about 15 seconds. But when you hear it over and over, the fact that it is a huge pile of crap becomes apparent. Love is shtrange? what the F is shtrange? I hate the stupid f*$&ing guitar part. It's quite possibly the worst pile of crap I've ever heard. I mean, forget Nationwide, right? Might as well be a Geico or Allstate or Esurance commercial. Nobody is paying attention to the product and nobody is going to be switching to Nationwide because of this horrible commercial. But the song... Great gods above, the song is just so terrible. Oh and Nationwide? That CGI crap STILL looks fake as f*$k.

These commercials wouldn't be so bad if they didn't play them over and over again. I counted one time and this baby commercial was on 4 times in an hour. Now come on, That is entirely too much.

I actually liked the idea when I first saw it. Okay, the car is symbolized as being the owner's baby. Fair enough. Car = Baby. They even do a good enough job keeping other cars in the background being out of focus so you keep thinking of the metaphor and not just a giant baby, or maybe I just give them too much lenience... but the thing that oddly bothered me the most was at the end when the "Baby" (since remember, Babies= cars) is playing with a tire... so is the car playing with a car part a la Cars or Herbie or is the Baby playing with... well that got dark. It's a stupid small thing, but that's what really bothered me about the commercial.

I've had enough, I'm sick of your dumb big baby ad! Also cut it out with that stupid sh*tty ass junk you call "music" it's grating on the ears AND nerves. No love is not "schtrange"! |

You may hate the song, but it's considered a classic. Supposedly, Bo Diddley wrote the riff, and Sylvia (the singer in the version used in the commercial) wrote the lyrics---but that's in dispute. Many people have covered it, including Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, Jerry Butler, Paul McCartney, Kenny Rogers, Jackson Browne w David Lindley, and others. Here's Buddy Holly's version: |

I did not get that. All I ever see is a disturbing giant baby in completely inappropriate places, exposed and in danger. I didn't even realize it was a Nationwide ad until I saw this thread.

I "got" the baby=car thing the first time I saw the ad.
What I don't get is how the guy managed to crash into a fire hydrant on a perfectly clear day, on an arrow-straight road, in a residential area.

Fly, it's possible that he was driving distracted... I remember a commercial where women in cars were flashing their breasts at passing male drivers, and a crash occurred... It was for a 411 pain commercial I think...
